Having given a Rouse in this column several months ago for Nelson Rockefeller, this seems an appropriate time to add "With a Will" to our congratulations. Gene Zagat recalls that the picture of Nelson, Fran Horn, and Fred Chase that accompanied the New York Times article on Old School Ties was borrowed from the 1930 Aegis of which he was business manager and Bob Kohn, editor.
Last call on the Winter Park March 22 reunion at the Tiedtkes'. Let John know if you are planning to attend; home phone 305-647-1545. Presently this is the only 1975 event for 1930 before Woodstock, unless someone comes up with a summer picnic proposal. Ellie French has been appointed a member of Governor Carey's Advisory Panel on Disclosure Standards. John French '30, John III '55, and now it's Jay '79 who has been accepted under the early admission plan.
From the Keenes. "We missed the fall reunion by a week, but we had to get back to the digs on our hill in Guanajuato. Being Immigrados we are allowed 'out' only 90 days yearly, and had to save some time for a trip to California later in the year. We loved having Ted and Betty Wolf find us last year." And from Ted. "As one tennis player to another you might be interested that I won a tennis tournament last November. There had to be 'strings' attached of course. It was strictly for fossils in the Virginia Beach area, over 60 to enter. With a little more practice I'll be ready to take you on, or BobMcClory, or Gene Magenau." Sally and GeneMagenau are now year round residents at Ragged Mountain, N.H. They spent last winter in California where they visited with son Roger and daughter Genie. "Finally we retired to Ragged Mountain in April and immediately began enlarging our vegetable garden and continued winterizing our house, doing most of the work ourselves. Gene's retirement became semiretiment when he formed a partnership with a Concord architect." Jim Tyler has been elected vice president of the Schenectady Automobile Club. Jim retired from GE in 1970 and retired a second time in December from the position of associate executive director of business and general services at Ellis Hospital.
In December I visited with Pete Davis at his Brockton Public Markets warehouse. Pete is president of this group of 32 New England based markets. It's an awesome sight to see all the food (especially the sugar) in their new warehouse which serves the entire chain. Their Stoughton store is one of half a dozen in the country selected to experiment with a new checkout system which uses the new uniform coding system (that group of parallel varying- width lines now printed on most grocery packages) recently developed for the food industry. A scanning device transmits the code to a computer which prepares an itemized sales slip for the customer as well as producing sales volume and inventory data. Son Peter, USMC, whose experience has been principally in aircraft, is still in service, but is currently studying at UNH.
Jesse Lichter was in Washington recently, accompanying youngest daughter Elizabeth as she matriculated at Georgetown University. Jesse is president of A. J. Siris in Mexico City and Barbara is a travel agent who must from long residence be the one to talk to if you are going that way.
We have learned with sorrow of the death of Clinton J. Ahern on December 1 and of George E. Simpson in 1974.
As a new member of the Alumni Council, I attended my first meeting in December and found the informational and committee discussions very stimulating. Les Godwin was in Hanover for the same purpose. Lee Sturman was also there to attend a meeting of class agents and is full of enthusiasm for his new assignment.
