In the In Memoriam notices yon will find an account of the death of our good friend and classmate, "Cap" Pilhbury, Brigadier General, USA Medical Corps. I don't like to think of Cap being gone. He was 75 years old.
It may interest you to know that your secretary became 77 on August 23. Sh-sh-sh! Don't tell anyone.
I had two letters from Shorty Sanborn recently. Shorty has not been well, nor his wife. I suspect ere this he has been to the hospital for a gall bladder operation. He sent me a newspaper clipping which tells of a lecture given by Dr. Farnsworth of Harvard in honor of our classmate Dr. Arthur H. Ruggles, under the auspices of the Rhode Island Society for Mental Hygiene. Art, why don't you keep us informed of the honors that come to you?
Shorty sent me a picture of himself and his wife. He says he does not do much any more. Claims he is getting old and probably never will go to Hanover again. Darn him! I mean to be going back to Hanover for thirty more years.
You all, of course, are rejoicing with me in the marvelous success of the Alumni Fund, both in the amount of money subscribed and the percentage of subscribers. Over $700,000 and almost 70 per cent.
On June 15 we took the train to our daughter in Connecticut. We went chiefly to see our new great-grandson, Timothy Warren Holcomb. We were gone just a month. Tim is now six weeks old. A fine boy!! (My wife says, "Almost three months." I guess she is right.)
I have a fine letter from Dick Southgate '07 in which he thanks me for a letter to BobClark and his wife on their 50th wedding anniversary. Bob is at a nursing home in Enfield, N. H., where he is receiving every care. Bob can't talk and is only semi-conscious. His wife is in Woodstock, Vt., and is blind and almost helpless from a second shock suffered four years ago. I urge that you all write Bob.
