John Eaton stopped by this past weekend to make a few cheap long distance phone calls. He told me all about the Yale game and all the '44s that were there; it was almost saddening to be assured that we're in the upper grey flanneled league and to know that most of the boys were more interested in eating hot dogs and watching the game than in passing the can of Old Bridlepath. He also mentioned that Jack Grimm was recently appointed advertising director of the J. B. Williams (shaving soap) Co. and fractures midtown traffic in his new, big Buick collapsible. It seems as though John sees quite a bit of Needle Allen, and from what I gather, they've cooked up a couple of Teapot Dome things that will either see them on the Time financial page or the second page of the Mirror. Also that Malcolm McCloud tossed a Hallowe'en fracas in his Manhattan Towers overlooking Central Park, a ducking partv ... but even more ghastly, it's reported that the Boog slips into his Jesse Owens suit every A.M. and waddles around Central Park Lake. Oh, welL
Dr. Nick Daukas has been appointed director of ophthamology (eye services) at the Hunterdon (N. J.) Medical Center. Can you imagine this former Brooklyn Dodgers tackle getting a hold of your eye-ball! Nick also holds a faculty appointment at the New York University-Bellevue Medical Center. Also up there in N. J., Sam Barnes is selling insurance out of Millington, and Chuck Foster has settled down in Montclair. Bob Tompa is an instructor in economics and business administration at Monmouth Junior College. He spent this past summer touring France, Austria, England and West Germany, studying economic aspects of these countries, all of which sounds like an average way of getting prepared for the fall season.
Those floods up in New England left FritzWitzel a bit shy of sleep. Production Manager for A. G. Spaulding Co., he did a Herculean job in getting back into operation with a minimum of down time. Don Davis is down in Atlanta in the Commercial real estate financing field; Bill Foye up in Boston at the Mass. College of Pharmacy; Fred Harrsen living in Princeton and making a fortune in NYC; Dr. Walt Price down in El Paso, Tex., at the William Beaumont Hospital; Bill Carey up in New Salem, Mass., was recently appointed principal of the Central School; Charley Keady teaching at the Wilmington High School in Maiden, Mass.; Dr. Al Peterson has settled in Binghampton, N. Y.; DaleSisson followed the lead of Bull Hinman and moved from Rye to Stamford; Ave Clark for unknown reasons is out in Seattle, Wash.; and Johnny Lesher also out in the land of opportunity is now living in Centralia, Wash.; his old running mate, Don Currier is up in Topsfield, Mass.; and Dr. Bill Gatlin and Phil W.Brown are trying it out for size in Hartford.
We have to hold the notes a bit tight this month to leave room for our largest vote of thanks to those who made the '55 Alumni Fund campaign the best in the history of 1944, but before closing I'd like to mention that pretty Josephine Hanlon and Steve Tate have announced their engagement and will take to the aisle in December.
