It seems that the only unfortunate thing about this column, at least as far as I am concerned, is the time lapse between the writing and the reading. Because of that fact, news that I get shortly after writing the preceding column has to wait another month before it is written and still another month after that until it is read. But deadlines are deadlines and I am afraid that we will just have to live with them. To cite an example, you may re- member that I mentioned that Pete Burnside had done a rather outstanding job pitching for a farm club of the New York Giants and that I mentioned that perhaps next season they could use him. On September 25, 1955, Pete won his first Major League victory when he pitched the Giants to a 5-2 win over the Phillies. Pete, who failed to survive four innings against the Pirates several days before, beat the Phillies' star, Robin Roberts, who finished with a 23-14 record. Pete yielded only seven hits and lost his shut-out in the ninth when Stan Lopatta cracked his 22nd homer into the upper deck with one man on. But baseball is now a little out of season so let's get on with:

WHAT'S NEW WITH '52 . . . Bob Merritt, who le£t the class before graduation, is reported in the real estate and insurance business in Port Chester, N. Y. Bob is a veteran of three years' service with the Army during the Korean conflict and last spring completed a comprehensive insurance course at the home office of the Travelers Insurance Companies. Charlie Jones, according to one bit of outdated news that I have, is now holding down a job on the General Sales Administrative Staff at the Commonwealth Shoe and Leather Company. Bob Curtis has been serving recently as the assistant to the City Manager in Portland, Maine. A Samuel Fells Scholar, Bob is currently working for a Master's degree of Governmental Administration at the Wharton School of Commerce* and Industry at the University of Pennsylvania.

On the academic side of the picture, there are several among us who have recently received teaching appointments at various schools. At Deerfield Academy, for example, Bob Binswanger is now a full-fledged member of the faculty there and has taken up his duties teaching history and English. DaveDuncombe has been appointed acting chaplain of of the Taft School in Watertown, Conn. Dave received an M.A. from Columbia and did graduate work at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Another '52 who can be found at the same school is Dick Ellis, who is teaching French and English there. Dick, as some of you may remember, spent his junior year studying in France and graduated from the Berkeley Divinity School in New Haven, where he received his S.T.B. last June. At Williams Memorial Institute in Connecticut, Don Unger has become a member of the English Department. After graduation Don assumed duties as a full-time English instructor at Dean Junior College before leaving there to work on his Doctorate degree at Harvard. Sandy Wiper has joined the staff at Suffield Academy in Suffield, Conn. Sandy has been working for his M.A. degree at Boston University and is teaching geology and mechanical drawing at Suffield.

NEWS FROM HITHER AND YON According to a news bit I have which drifted up from the Hudson River Valley last September, Nels Ehinger and a Williams companion in arms rented a Circle Line excursion boat and sold out accommodations to some 350 New York acquaintances. The result was a four-hour cruise on the river with Lester Lannen for music and all the beer anyone could drink. The story has it that those '52s in attendance included Dek Davidson and his bride; John and Carol Rosenwdld; Royand Lee Abbott; Ceb Benish and Rog Malkin. My reporter tells me there may have been others but at the moment that was all he could remember.

Easing around gradually into the domestic side of life, Kirk Spur and wife announce the birth of a son, James Kirk, on August 26. The Spurs make their home in Ithaca, N. Y. In that same vein, your reporter's wife, Pat, presented him with a daughter on the morning of September 28 at the Worcester Memorial Hospital. Her name is Martha Cushing and she has kept us pretty close to home lately. However, we hope to have her on skis this winter.

TROTHS AND BETROTHS There are still a number of nuptials which I have backlogging in my file. But be that as it may, here goes with at least a few of them. On August 25 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell, Mass., Alex Athanasopoulos and Tula Miamis exchanged vows. Alex is a graduate of Tufts and is currently associated with the General Electric Co. in Lynn as a manufacturing trainee. On August 27 Nate Parker and Janice Cleary were married at the Wyman Memorial Church of St. Andrew in Marblehead, Mass. Both are seniors at the University of Michigan Law School and Janice is an alumna of Connecticut College. Among those assisting with the ushering duties were Chuck Queenan, Don Meyers and Terry Malone. On that same Saturday afternoon, in Hagerstown, Md., Mary Bester became the bride of Riley Daniels. Mary attended Mary Mount College. They made their home in Hasbrouck Heights, N. J.

Dave Oestreicher and Grace Shirlaw were married on September 10 in New Milford, N. J. Grace had been working with the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York; and Dave is a reporter in the County News Bureau of the West Chester County Publishers, Inc. The Oestreichers are living in New Rochelle, N. Y.

Skipping back for a moment to August 16, a late note informs me that Ross Daniels and Fayne McGrath were married at St. John's Church in New York City. Fayne graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale and attended New Paltz Teachers College. She is on the faculty of the Pauling Central. School. Ross is associated with his father in the insurance business. On September 10, in Beverly Hills, Calif., Lee Coulter and Lea Mackay exchanged vows. Lee is currently attending Stanford Law School and his bride is a graduate of Bennett Junior College in New York. On September 17 at St. Joseph's Cathedral, in Hartford, Conn., Bob Adams was married to Shirley Ann Hannafin. Bob's wife is a graduate of LaSalle Junior College and Bob has recently completed two years service in the U.S. Army's Third Armored Division. Those among the ushers included NetsEhinger and Steve Parkhurst. On the same day, Charles Liddle and Nancy Hyatt were married at an evening ceremony in the First Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. Charlie's bride is a graduate of Indiana University and after completing a wedding trip to Europe, they will make their home in Albany, N. Y. Len Hedberg was among the ushers at the ceremony.

That about completes the picture for this month. The Tom and Jerry season is in sight, so a Merry Christmas to you all and the very best of Happy New Years.
