Having settled into the very pleasant routine of civilian domesticity for a change of pace and thereby coming home to a somewhat different abode from that I have known of late, I find that time has a way of trickling by, which bears, I'm afraid, closer scrutiny. As I opened the mail this evening, the October issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE reminded me that another column or two was almost overdue. So let's have at it.

Those of you who read the latest column will remember that there was no dearth of news of a matrimonial nature which should be covered, so that will occupy the major portion of this month's copy. But there is more to cover. For example, I said that I thought that there were more I didn't know about who had received degrees from the Harvard "B" School. One is l.eon Hirsch, who in addition was awarded a Ford Fellowship. He will be going to the University of London this fall, specifically to the School of Oriental and Africa" Studies. He says further that he will be taking some parallel courses in the London School of Economics. Later, he hopes to go to Bombay to study problems involved in urban industrialization. Leon attended Dartmouth with our class and then transferred to Cornell for his last two years before going on to Harvard. Alex AthanasopouJos can be found in Lowell, Mass., in the manufacturing training program at the General Electric'plant there. Al Baxter is on the road for the U. S. Rubber Co in Pittsburgh. JoeHaute is a mechanical engineer at the Marem Machine Co. in Keene. Doc Dey is serving aboard the USS Albany, lately out of Norfolk. Phil Chapelt is in Schenectady engaged in accounting Dave Brew is occupying himself with things geological with the U.S.G.S. JohnBarclay is with the Wire Rope Corp. of America in St. Joseph, Mo. Mendy Balkin is another of those serving with the USN, but calling his place of residence Arlington. Va. ArdyEpranian was last heard from with the sth Ser. Gr., Army that is. Haw Kelly is also with that organization, the 7th Army, Finance Section to be specific. Gene Klenk is a jg, USN, last seen in Philly. Dick Little is also still with the Navy Blue on the USS Rowe (DD 564). Bart Lombardi is one of the few who can fathom the integrated complexities of those mechanical, electronical monsters that frequent more and more offices these days. Technical Engineer with 1.8.M. in N Y.C. is the title. John McDonald, Ist It., is with the 3rd Marines Div. on the West Coast or beyond. Tony Morse is with the Army in Europe, last I heard. Moose Palitz is to be found on board the USS Markab (AD 21). Jim Weidman is overseas with the Army, also. Likewise with Howie Whitaker, who is with the 331st Combat Recon Co. Bob Curtis, having served 16 months in Germany with the armored force, has set aside the Army colors for those of the U. of Penn. where he is studying at the Institute of Local and State Government at Wharton.

And from out Al Lopez's territory, home of the also-rans to be exact, comes news that Ray Barker and wife Sandra are the proud parents of William Howard, born on August 26.

The Matrimonial Side

Hustling way back to last spring, GeneBrooks married Helen Gaudette. She attended the University of Massachusetts and Gene is affiliated with Westinghouse in Augusta, Maine. On the 15th of June Ray Schumacher and Suzanne Durstine exchanged vows in the chapel of the Little Church Around the Corner. Jim Wright was on hand to handle the duties of best man. Ray is working in Columbus. On the 19th in New Britain, Conn. Bucky Linman and Mary Pelletier were married. Mary is a Colby Jr. graduate. On the following day Dave Neiditz and Minerva Heller were married. Neil McMahon and JoeNovak were among the ushers. Dave is in his last year Harvard Law while his wife attends Radcliffe Graduate School. Again on the 20th, Marcia Greenwood and Dort Bigg became man and wife. They are living in Boston while Dort completes his last year at B.U. Law. EdChristie, now serving with the Navy, married Susan Clement in Cranford, N. J., last June 25. Susan graduated from Hood College and they make their home in California where Ed is! stationed. Bob Meanix was best man. Back on the 19th I notice I missed the marriage of John Watson to Rita Mary Goodrich in Wilder. John is winding up his final year at Johns Hopkns and they make their home in Baltimore. John worked for the Polio Foundation at the Veterans Hospital in White River this past summer.^

On the 26th Cliff Fitzgerald and Ginny Hoffman were married. in Greenwich, Conn. Ginny is a member of the Class of '53 at Colby Jr. and Cliff is with the Air Force's 71st Fighter Interceptor Squadron in Pittsburgh. That same day saw four more '52s wedlocked. In Wellesley, Ray Hinds married Joanne Fowle. Joanne graduated from Colby Jr., Class of '52. Ed Finerty assisted with the ushering duties. Dick Carleton exchanged vows with Martha Coursen in Madison, N. J. Martha graduated from Smith last spring and Dick is winding up with his last year at Harvard Med. Five '52s were on hand in an official capacity. Dick Lathrop was best man, and three of the ushers included Howie Geist, DonHorrigan, Les Bauer and Dave Abrahams. In Pawtucket that same day Ed Lyon and GadMaurath were married. They make their home in Cowansville, Quebec. Lastly, JohnDoty and Carol Andrews were married in the chapel of Texas Christian University. John and Carol met in Europe while he was serving with the Sixth Fleet there. Carol is a graduate of Texas Christian and they live in Arlington.

On the 3rd day of July Johnny Rosenwald and Carol Ann Roy were wed in New York. Johnny is a Tuck graduate while his wife graduated from Bradford Jr., Class of 53. They live in White Plains and Johnny is with Bear Stearns & Co. That same day out in Ft. Benjamin, Ind., Mary-Elizabeth Donovan and Andy Pandalon were married. Andy's wife is a Smith graduate and Andy still finds the Army occupying his time in the Finance Corps. On the 17th Johnny Upton and Penelope Perkins were wed at Manchester. Johnny's wife was graduated from Lesley College, and at last word he was serving in the Marine Corps. On the 24th of that month in Camden, Maine, I exchanged vows with Pat Rich at a garden wedding at the home of her parents. Brother Dick '54 served as best man and the Dartmouth ushers included Lee Coulter who came on from the Coast, Bill Breed, just back from Korea, and Bill McAndrew. Dek Davidson, Howie Haas, Bob Binswanger, Dave Larson and George Hibben managed to find their way to the festivities, among others. Pat and I hold forth at 32-A Boynton St. in Worcester and the door is open for any of you who are out this way or passing through.

On the engagements there are seven which need reporting here: Al Fiertz, Ist It. USMC and Beverly Jean Fowle; Hugh Lefkowit.z and Janet Mayer; Neils Chew and Susan Wetherby; Jay Anderson and Edythe Scales; LoisVelte and Connie Carstens; Dick Nye and Joyce Roper; and John Barclay and Robin Wreszin.

There is more to tell but it will have to wait until next month. Before closing, though, I managed to make the Navy game and watched what I think is one hell of a good football team play about four Navy teams. The only thing the Big Green lacked was depth. Man for man they looked as good as I've seen since the days of Armstrong, Carey and Sullivan. Any Ivy League team they play will have a real fight on their hands provided they can keep the injuries down and the old bugaboo, the pass defense, can be tightened up. By the way, you may have noticed that they are asking for two bits, optional of course, when you buy your tickets from the D.C.A.C. It comes as a part of Dartmouth's contribution to the '56 Olympics. It's an opportunity if your interests lie in that direction.

Let me know what you want to hear about from the Plain. I plan to get up there more often; and let's hear from youse guys.
