At the outset, a note concerning the records is in order. It is a tough job to keep all the addresses straight and it your address has changed recently - let's say since the notices went out for the new Alumni Directory would you please let us know so we can bring the files up to date. And by the way, in case some of you may have missed it, The Alumni Directory is coming out this spring with the names and addresses of all living alumni, between the covers of one book. Let me know if you want one and I'll see that the request gets forwarded - or write direct to Hanover. I think it runs about six bucks.
Aside from that rather formal and impersonal introduction, I would make note of fust a couple of items. Like maybe the kind of January we had here in New England. It was the wettest one for rainfall and the windiest, since the wind averaged 18 mph
But that's enough for weather and such and it's high time I got on with..
WHAT'S''NEW 'WITH '52.... One of the best announcements this reporter has come across in recent months was the one from the firm of Richard M. & Sandra F. Watt who purported to be in the designing and fabricating business. Their news release concerned the formation of a wholly owned subsidiary to be known as Kimberly Anne, and that the new issue was dated January 23, 1956. The prospectus called for tax benefits and capital gains "when viewed as a long term investment." Just goes to show ya', lots of new products around these days.
From the Hanover area, the ticker tape has it that there were several of the gang there in the last month or two. Dave andNan Hawkins, Bob Kelly, Don Unger, and Deke Emmons were just a few, and I suspect that the majority had a set of boards on
Skipping about a bit — from item to item a report from the New Jersey area indicates that Jim and Sally Toffey have seen the last af the Navy for a while and Jim spends his working hours with the First Boston Corporation in New York. Hank Woerner, on the other hand, is just starting his tour with the Navy as an ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps. Hank entered M.I.T., upon graduation from Dartmouth, and received a degree in architecture from that institution last Since that time he has graduated trom OCS and is currently assigned to the Public Works Office at the 13th Naval District in Seattle. From Chicago, word has it that HarryWachen is well into his second year of Med. School at the University of Chicago. Moreover, the same can be said about Al Zimello except that he is studying for his degree in Ottawa, Canada. Al Davis now has Navy days behind him and can be found neath the towers in Cambridge at the Law School. The John Brower family now numbers four, including Marcia and Thomas and they are firmly ensconced in Northbrook, Ill. Sam Daniell, the word is a June RAD with a possible chance for earlier release At last word it was the USS Marsh (DE-699) on the Coast with a Supply Officer's billet. Sam and wife Zandra have added two to the fold, both of which are boys - Christopher and Mark. I gather also that the East still holds a charm for some, because they will make their home in this general area. Herb Drury can be located through the New Hampshire Fis an Game Dept. and says that there isn't much time for skiing. But I gather that he carries them along just in case and covers the State of New Hampshire fairly well with his base of operations in Milford. If I have my records straight, the class does have one representative on the Olympic Team as of this writing. Charlie Tremblay was named to the combined U.S. Team for the Nordic events and, as yet, I have not heard how he made out.
TROTHS AND BETROTHS.... Don't know how it happens but this class has more news than ever under this general heading of matrimony. Must be the cold winters. Anyway, here's the latest scores. Don Staubes and Helen Bradley are affianced and plan nuptials on May 5. Don is working for WIBX in Utica and, from what I gather, enjoys it very much. Last November Mr. and Mrs. William Maxwell Scott announced the engagement of their daughter Florence Clark Scott to William Barret Conway. Bill's bride-to-be is a Mt. Holyoke graduate and Bill received his degree from Thayer in 1953. During that same month, M. and Mme. Jacques Desmazieres of Lille, France, announced the engagement of their daughter Nicole to JohnNewey. John and his fiancee met on the Andrea Doria en route to Europe where John spent a year traveling, and studying in Korea. John is currently working in the Chicago area. Again in that same period, Bill Stewart and Sally Stoops made known their intentions for a July wedding. Sally is a student at Vanderbilt and the ceremony will take place in South Bend, Ind. In December, JoeCushing and Mary Mitchell announced their engagement. Joe left the class before graduation to fulfill military obligations and is currently attending B.U., the Business School at B.U. in Boston. Jim Meredith and Ann Stakely plan a spring wedding. Their engagement was announced last December. Jim is currently on duty with the Navy and is stationed in Norfolk, having graduated from Tuck in 1953. Ann is a graduate of Briarcliff Junior College. On December 10, Fred Heath and Dolores del Rio exchanged vows at St. Augustine's Church in New Rochelle. Fred's bride has been associated with Courtesy Associates in Washington and Fred is presently stationed aboard the USS Tidewater in Norfolk. On January 1, Gil Noble and Barbara Ann Raab announced their engagement. Gil is on the faculty of the Rutland High School. She is a graduate of the University of Vermont. On that same day, Tom Garrity and Joanne Monahan made known their intentions. Joanne is a graduate of Lasell Junior College. Shortly thereafter, Mr. and Mrs. Elliot Noyes of Hanover announced the engage- ment of their daughter Barbara to Bill Biddie. Ellie's daughter just finished up her courses at the University of Michigan, and Bill is attending the Harvard Graduate School of Education. They plan a June wedding in Hanover.
Well, it's getting a bit late in the evening so it's, time I wound this thing up. See you in April. Doggone if it isn't almost time to polish up the clubs again - how 'bout it, Scotty O.?
