The Harvey P. Hood Trophy for 1954 was awarded to Class Agent Munroe s. Fitzherbert '36 at the Boston Alumni Fund dinner on March 29. For his outstanding work among classes 11 to 25 years out of college he was cited as follows:
The Alumni Fund Committee is privileged to recognize each year the finest class agent work of the classes eleven to 25 years out of College by the presentation of the Harvey P. Hood Trophy. At this time the Committee is delighted to honor a Dartmouth Alumni Fund worker who is concluding a full five-year term as head agent of his class this spring.
The final campaign which begins officially later this week will see this agent set out to achieve an objective that few head agents have ever had an opportunity to seek, much less obtain. When he came on the job in 1951, this man enjoyed unusual first-year success: he obtained more dollars from more classmates than ever before in the history of his class. The succeeding three campaigns conclusively proved that this feat was no accident. Each year he steadily increased the number of contributors and the total of the dollars. His goal for 1955: to make it five in a row by exceeding 443 contributors, last year's record, and $12,680, the 1954 dollar total.
Surprisingly, this head agent has never won a Green Derby. Since 1951 when he was 29 points off the pace, he has been getting closer and closer until last year when he finished in third place, only four points behind the winner in very stiff competition. It would be surprising indeed if his 1955 plans do not also include some aspirations in this direction.
With deep appreciation for all that his exceptional labor and skill has meant to Dartmouth, and best wishes for continued success this coming spring, the Alumni Fund Committee is happy to present this Louis Orr etching to MUNROE S. FITZHERBERT '36 as a token of its esteem.
