Handicapped somewhat by the lack of any really outstanding players, the Dartmouth tennis team has nonetheless held its own and played well over its head in some matches. Tennis opposition in the East this spring has been unusually strong, which accounts for many of the Dartmouth shutouts and near shutouts. Since the last report Dartmouth has lost to Cornell, Yale and Harvard by 8-1 scores, to Princeton 9-0, and has won league matches over Columbia 7-2 and Penn 6-3.

In the most recent contest with Penn, Dartmouth pulled a mild upset with Bob Smith, Dave Kerr, Chet Gale and Pete Buswell all winning their singles matches, while Chet Gale and Fred Pessl along with Pete Buswell and Livingston Jenks teamed up to win both doubles matches and give Dartmouth a 6-3 victory.

Coach Red Hoehn has settled on a lineup which has Captain Dan Anzel playing number one followed by Dave Kerr, Chet Gale, Fred Darche, Bob Smith and Pete Buswell..Bob Smith has been playing very well of late and may move up in ranking for the final games with Amherst, Williams, Army and Middlebury.
