This is one of those unfortunate months when we have almost an unlimited amount of news about people and things only to find that our space will be curtailed for the recording of Alumni Fund gifts. Consequently, if the news you are looking for is not here, try next month.

Football games are a grand place to see old friends and this year's games are no exception. For instance, at the Brown game a correspondent reports the presence of Dick Barnard, Les Godwin, Herb Chase, Horace Allyn, Bert Hoxsie, Roily Booma, Billy Walker, Grif Roberts and Bob Jordon. This sounds like a stag party but I assume all except the bachelors were accompanied by wives.

The '30 delegation at the Holy Cross game in Hanover was not very large and as the Bowlens looked around we could only seeHank Ekstrom, the Roily Boomas and PeteWilcomb - and they were so separated that we actually talked with none of them other than to say "hi" to Hank.

The annual New York fall dinner held the Thursday night before the Yale game brought out an excellent assortment, both locally and from the country as a whole. It was arranged at the Dartmouth Club through the good offices of Charlie McDonough and started with cocktails at 6. Almost all were able to stay for the fine dinner served later. I hope we got the full attendance which included Ranny Hobbs,Jim Mitchell, Alex McFarland, Lee Chilcote,Win Stone, John Tiedtke, Chuck Fay, NelsonRockefeller, Carl Hafenreffer, John French,Dud Day, Shelly Stark, Art Behal, Pete Calaway, Hank Embree, Ed Schuster, CharlieRauch, Horace AUyn, Milt Fleishman, WallyWasmer, Wally Blakey, Bill Rheinhart, VicBorella, Charlie McDonough and myself. The representation was wonderful with men from the far west, the mid-west and Florida and the group was sufficiently small so we all had a good chance to talk over old times. Particularly do I remember a lesson by Art Behal on the art of arbitrage in securities, something I had never heard of before. While most of the after-dinner speeches called for by Chairman Borella were on the light side, we all were particularly interested to hear Win Stone talk briefly on the importance of learned American periodicals in the libraries of foreign countries.

The entire group was tremendously elated over the announcement that Milt McGinnis had been promoted to executive vice-president of the Erie Railroad and the entire group agreed that it would just be a matter of time until our Milt is president. It also developed that Charlie McDonough has recently been promoted to being in charge of prosecution of felonies in New York County.

For the benefit of the Connecticut, New York and New Jersey men who weren't there, mark down on your calendar now that January 24 is the next New York meeting. It certainly is well worth attending.

On the following day the Executive Committee of the Class met again at the Dartmouth Club and present were: Chairman Borella and Messrs. Blakey, Watson, Rich, Booma, Condon, Dunning, McFarland, Stone, Tiedtke and Bowlen, as well as a group of other classmates in town for the weekend. In brief, Wally Blakey, Treasurer, reported that the Class has the highest percentage of dues paying members of any in the years between '25 and '37. Jack Rich indicated that this fall the bequest program work would get underway. In general it will follow the procedure of earlier classes and obviously has to be handled on an entirely confidential basis. Harry Condon reported on the highly successful summer reunion and is expecting to poll the Class before too long as to whether you would prefer having this in August or over fall football weekend. Fred Watson reported that the Alumni Fund overall goal for this year would be $865,000 and he now is active in listing agents for the campaign which starts next spring. Here is a chance for any man in the Class, who will, to get in touch with Fred and share a little of his burden.

The Executive Committee meeting was followed by cocktails and supper in the apartment of Ellie and John French which was another one of those magnificent affairs. We were particularly lucky that we could hear Ellie as she made a short political broadcast over one of the New York stations.

The parking lot outside the Yale bowl showed up some additional '30 men. Al Bolte and Chick Pooler had driven up with their families. Henry Hillson was there reporting on his problems as headmaster of a high school of 4,000 students which included some twenty odd different language groups. It was fun to see again after many many years Al Kronengold who is in the insurance business in New York and who has a daughter, now a freshman at Oklahoma. In Gene's absence, Cornelius Isagart was at the game with their two children and reported Gene as being in the best of health but very busy. Everyone was particularly pleased to welcome into the group at the game. Vic Borella's daughter Katherine who certainly added to the party.

After the game we ran into the Ryders, Si and Margo Chandler and the Jack Crawfords, all looking hale and hearty despite a wearing afternoon. Somebody reported also having seen Arch Clark and Mem King. We were one of many couples invited after the game to go back to Westport for cocktails and supper in the lovely home of the Pete Callaways and we were certainly glad that We took advantage of the invitation. We were all most pleased to meet Pete's mother and his sister from Helena, Mont. Again two or three other '30 men showed up here: Bud Ackley was a welcome addition and Freddie Bowes, head over heels in the United Fund Campaign of Stamford, was there with his wife Priscilla and son.
