DARTMOUTH'S outstanding awards for graduate study, the James B. Reynolds Foreign Scholarships, carrying a stipend of $2,000 each, are available to qualified younger alumni as well as members of the present senior class.
These scholarships are for study or research in any field at any recognized institution of learning in a foreign country. Programs of independent investigation or of creative activity in the arts may also be approved in exceptional cases. In the selection of one of the five Scholars to be chosen for the academic year 1956-1957, preference will be given to applicants planning study in one of the Northern countries, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark or Finland.
In evaluating applications the Committee on Graduate Fellowships considers the soundness and value to society of the programs submitted, and the character and ability of the candidates. Financial need is not a factor in selection,
Alumni may request application forms from Professor George E. Diller, Chairman of the Committee, 304 Dartmouth Hall. Completed applications and letters of recommendation must reach him by April 2, 1956. Personal interviews are not required of alumni applicants, who will suffer no prejudice if not interviewed. Appointments are made by the President of the College, who ordinarily announces them about the end of April.
Several other Graduate Fellowships are offered by the College and are also open to alumni. Forms may be obtained from Professor Diller, to whom they must be returned by April 21, 1956.
