It's Fall and once again yours truly takes typewriter in tow to stumble with inept fingers over the keyboard in an attempt to bring you all up to date on "What's New with '52." In view of the fact that I am knee deep in news, I just may skip about a bit and even repeat a few items you may have heard before. However bear with me and we'll take a look at

WHO 'S WHERE DOING WHAT.... First, looking back on the summer reminds me that Ray Lindquist and X crossed paths on the tennis courts of the Norton Company one steaming hot evening. He sports an LL.B. after his name now, having graduated from Harvard last spring. He was on his way to the Coast with a car load of belle dames for a few weeks of vacation before entering the service this fall. A couple of weeks ago one Bill Fisher, now drumming for National Distillers, stopped by for the evening. He has service with the Marines behind him, is enthusiastic about the organization he is with, and says "You can't get it wholesale." Howie Van' Valzah and CurtRichards are known to have been in the Hanover area this summer. Dr. John "Red" Watson graduated from Johns Hopkins with honors last spring and will intern at the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York this fall.

While I am on the general subject of academic achievement there follows herewith a list of those who graduated from Harvard with degree earned properly appended:

Dave Abrahams, M.D.; Ray Alexanian, M.D.; John Ballard, LL.B.; Les Bauer, M.D.; Rog Branigan, LL.B. cum laude; Dick Carleton, M.D. cum laude; Doug Corerman, LL.B.; Win Craven, LL.B.; Perc Crosby, A.M.; Joe Dobbs, M.D.; Cole Dorsey, LL.B.; Bill Fletcher, M.D.; Fred Fourni, LL.B.; Howie Geist, M.D.; Les Geller, LL.B.; Alf "Gundy" Gundersen, M.D.; Dan Gutterman, LL.B.; Ray Jankowich, M.D.; Mike Jones, LL.B.; Rem Kinne, LL.B. cum laude; Bill McAndrew, M.D.; Ray Lindquist, LL.B.; Bob Medvecky, LL.B.; Herb Muller, M.D.; Dave Neiditz, LL.B.; Sandy Saunders, Walt Schalick, LL.B.; Jim Wittenberg, LL.B.; Jim Wright, LL.B.

I have no complete lists from other universities and colleges pertaining to Dartmouth '52s, but here follows a scattering of the group that I do know about: George Grosshans received his M.A. from Tufts. Carl Peterson received his M.D. from Yale. Bob Millhouse was awarded his M.D. by Western Reserve and will intern at St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland. Brock Lewis received his LL.B. from B.U. LesCommons was awarded his D.D.S. from the University of Penn. School of Medicine and reported for duty with the Air Force this summer. George Sherman has been named a Foreign Study and Research Fellow by the Ford Foundation. He plans a year of study at Columbia having completed a year at Oxford under his first foundation fellowship. George received his Master's degree in governmental affairs from Columbia 1954.

John Mathews received his B.D. from the Princeton Theological Seminary. He served on the student council while at the Seminary and was awarded a special scholarship for academic achievement during his second year at the Seminary. John has been awarded a teaching fellowship in homiletics and plans to continue his studies at Princeton this fall toward a doctorate degree. He was ordained to the Christian ministry on June 9 at the North Avenue Presbyterian Church in New Rochelle. Fran Frellick prepared for the ministry at the Andover Newton Theological Seminary and has been serving as the assistant chaplain at the State Hospital in Concord, N. H. On August 9 Fran was ordained into the Christian ministry in the Granville Baptist Church, Granville, Mass. It was the first ordination in that church in over one hundred years. Congratulations are definitely in order to all of you along with the very best of luck. By the way, I could use any complete lists of degrees awarded by other colleges and universities to Dartmouth '52s.

Getting back to items not so academic in nature, Dick Dalbeck is back in this country after what seems to have been a most interesting trip to the South Pole on the USS Atka. MetTaylor arrived in Worcester early this summer to assume duties as the new traffic manager of the New England Telephone Office here. Previously, he had been assigned to the Springfield and Northampton areas. It has been several weeks since I have seen Met and I suspect that he has found his days rather busy recently due in no small part to the flood damage in this area. The damage done was devastating and often underestimated. Unless you have seen it, it's hard to believe that so much could have been lost so quickly and so completely.

FROM THE LETTER DEPARTMENT. ... Dave Hawkins writes that Jim and SallyToffey can be found in the Norfolk area these days and that Dorn McGrath and wife are slated for two years' duty overseas in Spain. George Sverdrup writes from Oslo, Norway, that he has seen very few of the gang save for an occasional transient, such as Dick Kinnier who put in for a few days with the Navy. George joined the marrieds last December and reports that he and his wife have an apartment in Oslo that will always be open to any visiting '52s. Dick Lathrop can be found interning at the Philadelphia General Hospital, having received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School last June. He is now the father of two girls: Linda two years, and Ellie two months. Tony Ibarra and wife Alicia are now residing in Mexico City where Tony works as an industrial relations man for the Ford Motor Company. Tony and Alicia are the proud parents of one Jorge Antonio who was born on April 9. I am told that JackHoeven and Ben Hadley were seen at Bob Jackson's ('51) wedding on the Coast last spring.

From Pittsburgh last spring came word that one Ron Rose now concerns himself with things scientific, such as reactors and plant kinetics for Westinghouse. According to the reports that I have, he likes the work and Pittsburgh very much. George von Peterffy writes that he had a short note from Bill Davis last spring. Bill and wife were vacationing in Salzburg at the time. Jim Crangle was last heard from in the vicinity of the New Yorker's offices, where it is reported that he is doing a bit of scribing for that outfit with some success. Word has it that Paul Richter, It. (jg) USN, has shipped over for another hitch in order to attend flight school. When last heard of, he was at Pensacola. George Read is living in the New York area and is associated with Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, Fenner, and Bean. Anyone for blue chips? Kayo Cox, John Doty, and Al Reich could be found in the Washington area this summer still working for Uncle Sam.

Before I get into nuptials and such, I'd like to take a line or two to say thanks to all of you who worked with George Hibben and BernieLewis on the Fund this year. The total Fund went over the $700,000 goal and the '52 participation figure exceeded the average for eligible alumni, even though some 91 '52s who gave in '53 and '54 didn't give this time. In short the whole gang did a swell job.

TROTHS AND BETROTHS As I get into this phase of the column I find that because of space limitations I will not be able to mention the entire roster of marrieds and about-to-be-marrieds. I will pick up where I leave off next month, however.

On July 23 Ted Myers and Lisa Berg were married in Longmeadow. Lisa attended Westbrook Junior College and Ted is associated with the Monsanto Chemical Company in the technical service department. They are presently living in Texas while Bob completes his tour of duty. A Nashua wedding saw Dek Davidson and Ann Louise Lyon married last June 4. Louise is a graduate of Mount Holyoke, Class of '53, and Dek is working for Alcoa as a sales engineer. Nets Ehinger was among the ushers.

Marilyn is a graduate of that college and Bob received his B.D. from the Yale School of Divinity in June. They sailed for Europe for the summer on June 15.

On the engagement side, Frank Mate and Margaret Holt announced their intentions in June. Margaret is a graduate of Western Maryland College and Frank has one more year at the George Washington University School of Medicine. A June wedding is planned. In July Tyler Dann and Catherine Ellerkamp announced their engagement. Catherine is currently working with McGrawHill and Tyler is attending the University of Texas Law School. He has been working with Cities Service Oil Company. In that same month Cole Dorsey and Beatrice Pauline Spaulding announced their engagement. Cole's fiancee is a graduate of Lesley College.

More next month. This is late already. Anyone for the Harvard game?
