Reunion Weekend—June 14, 15, and 16

Been a busy week for yours truly not to be outshone by the Yale game. But with elections now a thing of the past, life is returning to some semblance of normalcy. As usual, I'm late with this column. In order to make room for the fund news this month this section will run short. With that in mind, let's get on with ...

WHAT'S NEW WITH '52

The Yale game saw the best turnout of '52's since graduation. At 10:30 a.m. the first to appear on the scene was Met Taylor and his new bride Janet. Dek and Louise Davidson, complete with the '52 banner, had not yet arrived. The Taylors, assuming they were in the wrong location, went searching for the gathering and it wasn't until after the game that we learned that the pick-me-ups had kept them in the '28 tent until game time. Meanwhile, Bernie Lewis, now working in Portland, Me., and Pete McSpadden and his wife Barbara had arrived along with Dick and Sandy Watt. By the time Pat and I arrived at the area, the banner was up and beer was available and, right behind us were Lyle and Lola Spalding - all the way from Schenectady.

A short but fruitful meeting of your executive committee was held, the details of which we will publish in The Crier. Of particular interest to the class will be a project which Dick Watt has agreed to undertake. By reunion, we hope to have a revised and up-to-date list of '52's — where they live, who they married, how many children they have, what they are doing during the work week and what their interests are. In line with this, you will receive a questionnaire some time this winter. Please answer it as completely as possible.

As noon approached, it was necessary to purchase several car spaces to handle the gathering. From New York and vicinity came John Rosenwald and his wife Carol, JohnPegg and his spouse, Nels Ehinger, Roy Abbot and his date, and Len and Judy Larrabee. Len, in addition to his duties at the Hanover Bank, is going to Law School at night. Bill Montgomery showed up "all the way from L.A." He is currently attending school at I.B.M. to further expand his knowledge in such things as "Ramac" and the 705. Whitey Dunlap caught a hop in from Dayton to be in attendance. He is recently out of the Air Force. Ken Roman, Bob Ringstad, Brew Sturtevant, and Bill Fisher drifted in before the beer gave out. Bob Jelley and his date, Bill Conroy and his wife, George Andretta, Dusty Rhodes, GeorgePandaleon, and Chris Wilson were in attendance for lunch as were Maury Lyon, Dan VanDorn, and his date Julie, George Clendon,Bart Lombard, and Ed Clark. Bill Fisher is now selling insurance and Bob Jelley reports that he won't part company with the Navy until after the first of the year. George Andretta has the Navy well behind him and finds himself well occupied with air-conditioning problems for Jet planes. Fred Hill, Al Jackson,Chet Wiley, Tony Quimby, Joe Novak and Charlie Curtis complete at least the partial list I have of those who showed up. We saw Bob and Lois Holmes on the way to their seats at the bowl.

I find, however, that there were those who were unable to locate the gathering of the clan or who arrived too late to do so. Fred Carleton, who dropped in while this was being written, says he saw "Em" White, John Barto, JackBarclay, John Newey, Frank Moody, DickCarlton, Bob Malkin, and Dave Heiditz - all in the immediate vicinity of the bowl. Understand that John Newey has matrimony on his mind in the near future.

Enough now for that very pleasant weekend in New Haven except to say that if it is your wish, we can make an attempt to have a get-together regularly on that occasion. Let us know how you feel about this in the next few months. A tent and a little more organized approach next year could make this a very pleasant habit.

TROTHS AND BETROTHS

Since this is to be a short column this month, I will skip the usual format and swing right into the matrimonial doings of this erstwhile class. In an attempt to get at least partially caught up with some of the back log, the relatively recent newly-wed list runs as follows: August 11 was the big day for Johnny Grocott and Judy Hawkes. That wedding took place in Melrose and saw Gene Teevens and Jack McNary in attendance as ushers. Judy is a graduate nurse and John is in the insurance business in Boston. They make their home in Melrose, Mass. On the following day, Doug Perthel exchanged vows with Bessie Stavros at Concord, N. H. Doug now has the service behind him, having spent eighteen months in Japan with Army Intelligence.

John North and Judy Hyde became man and wife on August 18 last. In Lancaster, Ohio, John's spouse has a degree from Wellesley. He has a Tuck M.A. to his credit and two years with the Navy behind him. They make their home in Detroit. Eight days later in Orange, Conn., Malcolm Brochin and Elizabeth Jane Resnik were married at The Race Brook Country Club. Malcolm graduated from the Harvard Medical School last June and is now interning at the University of California Hospital in San Francisco. Elizabeth expects to complete her studies in Berkeley which were begun at Wellesley.

Ken Arico and Kathleen O'Connor took their vows in St. Lawrence Church, Chestnut Hill, Mass., on September 9. Ken left the class to enter the service before graduation. They are living in Allston. Lastly, but certainly not least, Met Taylor and Janet Hart were married, September 15, in New Haven. Len Larrabee was in attendance to assist with ushering duties. Janet is a graduate of Barat College in Lake Forest, Ill., and Met, after several years in Springfield, is now in Worcester as Traffic Manager of The New England Telephone and Telegraph Office.

So be it for this month and indeed this year. However, I might add one point of interest for those of you who expect to be in Hanover with skiing on your mind over the holidays. The Dartmouth Ski-Way is now about complete and having seen it in a nearly finished stage, I can only say it looks terrific. Four complete trails cut and seeded this summer plus a poma lift will make it one of the best around that area. To you all a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years.
