It seems to me that last month I had something to say about the way the month of March eased its way gracefully in, in this general area. Unfortunately, it didn't leave the same way. In short, any comments on the weather would be superfluous. It suffices to say that even the skiers are sick of snow. Despite the fact that it was still good skiing in any ski resort of New England on the weekend of April 7, the Executive Committee of this class managed finally to get together for their first meeting. Saturday noon saw ten out of a possible fourteen meet at Patten's Restaurant in Boston. They included Messrs. Binswanger, Brace, Davidson, Davis, MacLeod, Hibben, McSpadden, Taylor, Lewis and Watt. Of the four not in attendance, two are in Europe, one is attending University of Chicago and the other was giving an exam to some 200 employees, which had been prescheduled some months ago. The meeting lasted approximately four hours and a great many items of interest were discussed. I shall attempt to get together with Dick Watt in the near future and we'll see if we can get some sort of a resume carried in one of the future issues of the '52 Crier. One subject which was discussed at some length was the matter of our Reunion a year from this June. I am pleased to announce that we were able to elect a Reunion Chairman who will, I am sure, come up with some outstanding ideas on how our 5th should be run. He is Bob Binswanger. Bins is incidentally an advocate of large committees, primarily, I think, because it spreads the load and offers an opportunity for more and better ideas. Bins can be contacted at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass., and I can assure you that he would welcome hearing from any of you who have any thoughts concerning Reunion. No more on the meeting for the moment, except to note that those who didn't live in or around the Boston area had to face eight to ten inches of snow the following morning to get back to their respective homes. Now on with ...

What's New With '52

Seen in Hanover in recent months were Lt.and Mrs. Stan Smiley, Jay Stahl, Mr. and Mrs.Dick McMahon and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Spalding. Those of you who read your paper only reasonably carefully on February 27 undoubtedly saw the picture of Dick Hill with Lt. Col. Robert R. Scott being congratulated by Brigadier General E. S. Chickering. Dick and Colonel Scott hopped the continent from Norton Air Force Base, outside of San Bernardino, Calif., to Langley Air Force Base in three hours and 34 minutes, at an average speed in excess of the speed of sound. The distance flown was some 2,400 miles and they flew at altitudes between 31,500 and 41,500 feet. They made the entire trip without refueling and touched down in Langley with enough fuel remaining in their tanks to carry them an additional 400 miles under the same flying conditions. Colonel Scott, eleven months ago, set the current transcontinental jet speed record when he flew an F-84-F from Los Angeles to New York City, averaging 652 mph over the 2,440-mile run. Incidentally the plane used by Dick and Colonel Scott was also an F-84-F. While Langley officials emphasized that no speed record, official or unofficial, was involved, I think it is safe to say that Dick Hill, of this class, has crossed this country faster than any other Dartmouth man ever has before.

Checking my notes I see that Bill Montgomery and Chev Haskell both made IBM's 100% Club for last year, which I might add is not a bad record. Jumping hither and yon for a moment here, I note that Don Chambless has a Navy billet in Alameda, Calif. DaveDrexler can be located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dugald Mac Arthur is serving with the 176 th Signal Company overseas in Europe, I believe. John North is now working with the Bell Telephone Company in Detroit, Michigan. Walter Simons is employed by the Standard Vacuum Petroleum Company in South Sumatra, Indonesia. Those of you who knew Nick Skrylov can find him under his newly adopted legal name of Nicholas Skylor in San Francisco, Calif. Karl Thielscher is a salesman working for Procter & Gamble in Utica, N.Y., and Gene Hudson is now practicing law in San Francisco.

Troths and Betroths

As spring approaches, more and more venerable '52s are slipped by the wayside. Without a question, this matter of matrimony is not far from foremost in the minds of quite a few '52s. For example, late in February, last, Mr. and Mrs. William Riley Loring of Evanston announced the engagement of their daughter, Patricia, to Lt. (j.g.) Bill Biggs of the USN ... a May wedding is planned. Bill, incidentally, has been recently transferred from Hawaii to the U. S. Naval Training Center at Great Lakes. Earlier in the month of February, the engagement of Miss Barbara Burgoyne to Tom Schank was announced by Mr. and Mrs. Harold F. Burgoyne of Lagrange Park, Ill. Barbara was graduated from DePauw University. In that same month, Ruth Creighton and Aldy Guild announced their engagement. Ruth is a student at the Gregg College of Northwestern University and Aldy, having served in the Air Force during the recent Korean conflict, is now studying in the University of Chicago Law School. On February 22, Capt. and Mrs. Herbert M. Hart of Hampden, Conn., announced the engagement of their daughter Janet Marie to MetTaylor. Janet was graduated from Immaculata Seminary in Washington, D.C. and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954 from Barat College of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, Ill. Met is currently the traffic manager of the N.E. Telephone Company here in Worcester. They plan a September wedding. A June 9 wedding is planned by Helen Fitzpatrick and Bob Rieman, whose engagement was announced by Mr. and Mrs. William Fitzpatrick of Western Springs, Ill. Helen is a graduate of Mount Holyoke and Bob is currently a senior at the Medical School of Northwestern University. Mrs. Charles Frederick DeMey of San Francisco, Calif., announced the engagement of her daughter Martha to John Clow last February. Martha is a graduate of Smith College and studied at Roedean School for Girls in Brighton, England. John received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California.

That's all you're going' to get from me for this sitting. So here's how until next month. Hope that some of you at least see that par isn't more than a half-dozen strokes away. By the way, buy those 65¢ golf balls this month and take the five or ten bucks, or more, that you save - which would otherwise be used to replace those lost ones - and throw it into an envelope marked ALUMNI FUND,DARTMOUTH COLLEGE, HANOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE. See you in June.
