After dropping the opening dual meet to Harvard by a close 75-65 score, the Dartmouth varsity track team went on to defeat Brown 86-53, Boston University 96-42 and Colgate 90-47 in dual competition for an overall record of three wins against only one defeat. The Indians placed eighth in the Heptagonal competition with Harvard winning in an upset over Cornell and Columbia and Brown trailing Dartmouth.

Doug Brew continued his outstanding performances and leadership as he captured the Heptagonal 880-yard run while Dick Schad finished fourth in the same race. Captain Lou Metzger tied for second in the pole vault and Willie Einarsson took a third place in the broad jump. Against Boston University Brew broke the College record in the 880 with a clocking of 1:53.3. He also has been a consistent winner in the mile event.

Dartmouth's pole-vaulting trio of Lou Metzger, Will Springer and Bill Buchanan, along with sophomore John Diggs, have also contributed heavily to the Dartmouth scoring. George Bixby has done well in both the discus and hammer throw, while Bob Timothy's javelin tosses have improved as the season progressed. Phil Drescher has been consistently clearing 5'10" in the high jump, and Willie Einarsson's broad jumps of about 22'7" have been contributing other points.

Sandy Heath, Garry Gilson and Chip Hartenstein have been the Dartmouth entries in the dash events, while John Celly's distance running and Monk Bancroft's showing in the javelin toss have also been effective.

Dartmouth's strength, as usual, has been in the distance and field events, with generally weaker showings in the dash and middle-distance events.

Track has shown a steady improvement of late which must be encouraging to Coaches Ellie Noyes and Ed Styrna.
