It's World Series time as I write this - the second game starting in three minutes-and the Yanks are already off and running with one game under their belt. The Big Green also got off on a winning note last Saturday, so we're looking forward to a successful season on the gridiron. I expect to make the Yale game in New Haven, if not others. Hope I'll see many of you in attendance.
Into the news clippings of the month.... Weddings: Joel Berson, a member of the legal department of NBC married Ann 0lstein last April. Ann is a 1954 graduate of Connecticut College for Women Frank Salvagio of Northport, N. Y., was married August 17 to Miss Norma Bernard of Queens Village, N. Y. Frank is an accountant, while Norma is a school-teacher.... Al Wagner of Wakefield, Mass., was married September 14 to Miss Joyce Hawkins of Tiverton, R. I.... One engagement: Bill Mason of Wilmington, Del., is engaged to Raila Ruth Mielikainen of Montreal, Canada. Bill has a Law degree from George Washington University Law School and is presently in the legal department with the DuPont Company.
A very welcome announcement comes from Summy and Nonie Arneson up in Wollaston, Mass., as they proudly announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, Leonora Elizabeth, born August 9. A subsequent letter from Summy reports that he is scheduled this week for some major surgery, but that mother and daughter are fine. Hope the operation proves most successful, Sum!!!
Now into a wad of miscellaneous clippings. . . . Dan Jackson is now associated with the Investment firm of Lionel D. Edie & Co. in San Francisco.... Dr. Jim W. Smith (Portland, Me., osteopath) has purchased an office for general practice in Troy, N. Y. The investment firm of Ben Jacobson (Benjamin Jacobson & Sons) has become the stock specialist for the Hammond Organ Co. principally because of the family's musical inclinations and closeness to the Hammond firm. Dr. Sam Doyle has been appointed to the staffs of Hitchcock Clinic and Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover. His specialty is ear, nose, and throat. John Pomeroy of Philadelphia was a recent speaker at the Young Republican Club in Lebanon, Pa. John is a prominent member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Young Republican movement.... Bob Bellemare has been transferred to the Everett, Mass., plant of General Electric where he will be supervisor of General and Sales Accounting in the Aircraft Engine department. Bob had previously been plant accountant in the Ludlow, Vt., plant. Dr. Nathan Gottschalk, music educator from Hartt College of Music in Hartford, Conn., made a spring speaking tour to Auburn, Me. John Griffith has been appointed a career foreign service officer by President Eisenhower. The appointment also makes him a vice consul and a secretary in the diplomatic service. Connie Pensavalle has been named an instructor in the Foxboro, Mass., High School. He will teach History and Problems of" Democracy and will also coach baseball. Connie is also Coach of the North Attleboro (Mass.) semi-pro football team. Allen Brooks has received his doctorate from Northwestern University. He had previously received his Masters from Yale in the history of art. Einar Grell has been awarded a doctorate in education from Columbia University. Einar is head of the biology department at Bay Shore (L. I.) High School. Otto Schumacher received a doctor of philosophy in medicine degree from the University of Minnesota. A clipping from the Class of 1904 Secretary about Hank Williams of Pittsfield, Mass., indicates that Hank has been elected Treasurer of E. D. Jones & Sons Co., a paper machinery manufacturing firm. Hank joined this firm after graduating from Harvard Business School. Hank is the dad of three sons.
A letter from Rank Lashmet in Chicago reports that at a recent cocktail party thrown by Bill Jones there were several classmates in attendance including Rank, Dean Cameron, and Bill Mackey with wife. Dean is a Chicago lawyer, while Bill drove up from Detroit for the occasion.
