The baseball season starts in two weeks, as I write this, and our Cathy brought us four daffodils from our "garden," so, despite the blizzards reported in Texas and Kansas, perhaps spring isn't far away. Hanover will be beautiful by the time you read this with Green Key absorbing the undergraduates' thoughts.

Also by the time you read this the New York City Class Dinner will be upon us, so I hope those of you in that area have reserved the evening. You'll all receive "reminder cards" asking you to let Ed Clogston know your plans, and Pat and I hope to see you there.

Into the news of the month.... Engagements — Al Quirk of Manchester, N. H., is engaged to Miss Patricia Ruth Russell of 805t0n.... Bob Jackson of Joliet, Ill., is engaged to Miss Nadine Rowell of Blanche, Tenn., with a summer wedding planned. Bob is a branch manager of Commercial Credit Corporation in Chicago.... Dr. Joe Kelley of Salem, Ohio, is engaged to Miss Ann Higley of Shaker Heights, 0hio....

Got several interesting letters during the month.... Bud Hughes out in Los Angeles forecast his March 15 wedding to Miss Lois Cecil of that city. Bud is "stumping the California area for Affiliated Fund and American Business shares under the wing of Lord, Abbett, & Co." Just prior to his marital knot Bud removed the cast from a ski-broken leg, but he assured me that glasses would nonetheless be raised on high in tribute to happy Hanover days on the big day. Incidentally, Bud, do I understand that several New England telegrams reached you on the 15th???? Peculiar messages????

Rank Lashmet writes that he, Julie, and papooses headed to Central Florida last month for 3 weeks' vacation.

A letter from Bob Belfit out in Midland, Mich., announces that he has resigned his instructorship at Penn State upon the completion of his work for a Ph.D. in chemistry. Bob is now employed by Dow Chemical as a research chemist in the Physical Research Lab. The Belfits extend a hearty invitation to any '49ers passing through Midland to stop in their new house to visit.

I'll probably go another 12 years before I'll again hear from two Peddie and Dartmouth classmates in the same week, but it happened two weeks ago — I heard from both Earl Thomson and Dave Strasenburgh (Peddie '45, Dartmouth '49) the same week. Tommy writes from Littleton, Colo., where he and family live while Tommy sells insurance for the Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Company. The Thomsons have two children - Ellen (5) and Earl III (3). Tommy also is Assistant Track Coach (in charge of Field Events) at the new Air Force Academy. Many of you may remember that Tommy's Dad is the Head Track Coach at Annapolis.... From Strass comes different, but equally important, news — the arrival of Jeffrey Carlson Strasenburgh on March 11 This is Dave's third son in three attempts.

Recent Hanover Inn visitors — the Harvey Nolans in mid-February, the Ted Krugs in late February, the Bill Whites first week in March, Tony Lyons the same date, Dick Desmond, Jack Kilmartin, and the Joe Riley's (all back for the Alumni hockey game) on March 9. Jack Ransom the next day, and Clarke Church that next week... a busy place for '49!!!

Into miscellany.... I attended a Dartmouth meeting with Bob Magown two weeks ago - Johnny Stockwell couldn't make it at the last minute.... Dr. Nathan Gottschalk conducted the Hartt Symphony Orchestra in its February appearance at the Eighth Annual Jewish Music Festival in Hartford-... Roger Bailey was elected assistant trust officer of the Northestern National Bank in Minneapolis.... Emidio Papa has announced his candidacy for the office of Town assessor in Hingham, Mass. Emidio owns and operates the Hingham Laundry Inc., and is the father of three sons, Ronald Allan (7), Mark Carmine (3) and Robin Steven (3 months). He is married to the former Catherine Failed of Hingham.... Ken "Luke" Soule has been appointed manager of the Albany, N. Y. office of the Travelers Insurance Co.... Al Sullivan of Brookline, Mass. has been promoted to Lieutenant in the Navy. Al is presently serving with the Helicopter Training Unit 1 at the Hilyson Field Naval Auxiliary Air Station at Pensacola, F1a.... Bob Amirault, former Director of Industrial Engineering for Bachmann-Uxbridge Worsted Co. (Uxbridge, Mass.), has joined Bruce Payne & Associates Inc., Management Consultants in Westport, Conn. Bob will function primarily in the area of industrial engineering as a senior Associate.... Charlie Eaton brings an illustrious Life Insurance sales career and reputation to his new duties as General Agent in Syracuse, N. Y. for the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company. Charlie's previous tour of duty in the Trenton, N. J. office brought that area's office up to one of the fastest-growing agencies in the company's field.

That'll about do it for this time. How about a letter to keep me up to date?? Don't forget the Alumni Fund that King Ball has now commenced — DO YOUR SHARE!!! See you May 10th??
