What started out in 1953 as a fall meeting of our Executive Committee which all classmates were invited to attend has blossomed into an annual fall party in the nature of a small-scale reunion. This year's meeting which was held at the Orford Inn at Orford, N. H., was, in the opinion of many, the best of these meetings to date. The weather man couldn't have been more cooperative. The days were beautiful and the whole countryside was a blaze of color. Perhaps the fact that the Dartmouth team performed so well in the game with Brown added something to the occasion, but whatever the reason, it was a fine weekend. It's just too bad that more of you couldn't have been with us to enjoy it. Those staying at the Inn included Bill and Helen Birtwell, Sumner and Charlotte Emerson, Harry and Helen Fowler, Bunny Holden. Mose and Pauline Hutchins, Karl and Elsie Koeniger, Norm and Mary Mc-Culloch, Ev Robie and his son, Dick 'SO, Bob and Anita Scott, Bill and Sally Sewall, Vic Smith (Irene was attending a Trustees' meeting at Skidmore), Gil and Marie Swett, Tommy and Dorothy Thompson, and, of course, your Secretary and Helen. On Saturday evening we were joined for dinner at the Inn by Bob and Gail Boynton, George and Florence Clark, Duke and Dorothy Howe, Hank and Polly Loudon and Mr. Hanover himself, Bill Eaton. As a matter of fact, while they didn't stay at the Inn, Bob and Bill were with us most of the time. They composed the committee of two which made all the arrangements for the weekend and they did a fine job. We missed Howard and Dorothy Stockwell, Pete and Lucy Olds and Skinny and Dorothy Sturtevant, all of whom had reservations at the Inn but had to cancel them at the last minute because of illness. Also, it's a pretty sure bet that Trennie and Florence Trenholm would have been with us if Trennie had not had to enter the hospital for surgery at just about the time of our meeting. Following dinner Saturday evening the Executive Committee met, with the others present as guests, and transacted a few items of business one of which will be mentioned in a subsequent issue of this column.

Bob Chase, Barney Gerrish, Karl Stillman and Red Wendell are known to have been in Hanover for the Brown game but they did not show up fos dinner at Orford.

On September 25, at the Trade and Convention Center in Philadelphia, Rudie Miller was given the American Public Works Association's Samuel A. Greeley Service Award "in recognition of his long and faithful service in the employ of the City of Bronxville, N. Y." Rudie has been with the City 30 years, a long period of service with one employer in any man's book! Hearty congratulations to Rudie.

A few '17ers are known to have been in Hanover for the New Hampshire game on September 28. Bob Boynton reports having seen Will Fitch and Bunny Holden. Also, he heard that Angus Black was in town but did not see him.

Hal Clarke writes that he is getting ready to retire in a couple of years and has bought a place on a lake in southern Wisconsin, near enough to his present home to enable him to return for any social functions and for the girls and their children to spend a lot of time with the old folks. Incidentally, Hal is 011 the Board of Directors of his town's new hospital.

Neither Howard nor Dorothy Stockwell has been enjoying the best of health of late so they took off a bit earlier than usual for Ellinor Village at Ormond Beach, Fla. They were sorry to miss the Orford weekend but to go south seemed the wise thing to do. Incidentally, the Stockwells have 14 grandchildren and Howard seems to be confident that that is a record for 1917. Does anyone dispute him? The last we heard, and that was some time ago, Stan and Eleanor Kingsbury had 11 grandchildren and perhaps there are more by now.

Last month it was reported that RalphSanborn had appealed to the Governor of New Hampshire- to experiment with rain making in an effort to bring relief to drought-stricken Rockingham county. As a result of Ralph's efforts funds were appropriated for cloud seeding in southeastern New Hampshire and the experiment was tried. How successful the experiment was remains to be determined but a recent letter from Ralph says, "We're getting more than normal rain-fall for the month of October."

In spite of threatening weather and, finally, rain on November 2, a respectable number of 17'ers took in the exciting Yale game and afterwards made the trek to Woodbridge to enjoy Bob and Anita Scott's usual hospitality at their annual post-game party. In talking to Anita Jr., she told us that this was the twenty-fifth such party in the past 28 years. During those years we have met children of our classmates and their husbands and wives as time passes on. Each year that we meet, the family circle grows larger and warmer and I think we can all be grateful that classmates like Bob and, of course, Anita, give us an opportunity to renew these associations. Some familiar faces were missing this year but of this number Butch Sherman, Spique Maclntyre and Sumner Emerson phoned to express their regrets and send greetings to those lucky enough to be present and Pete Olds wired similar greetings from Chatham. Ed Earle performed on the piano, as only he can, to the delight of those who like to think of themselves as singers. A reasonably accurate check of those present showed that the following checked in: Wendell and Eleanor Reycroft with their daughter, Judy, and her Boston roommate; GilSwett in the role of a stag while Marie was in Hamburg, N. Y„ helping care for a brand new grandson; Bob and Gail Boynton with their son, John, and his wife, Doris; Tommyand Dorothy Thompson; Ed Earle, Karl andElsie Koeniger and two guests; Skinny andDorothy Sturtevant; Gene and Lucile Towler and two guests; Elliott and Florence Mudgett and their daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Al McEwan; Bud and Marie Steele; Frank Lagay and three guests; Norm and Mary Mc-Culloch and finally, your Secretary and Helen.

November 2 seems to be a bit early tostart talking about Christmas but by thetime you read this column the holiday season will be upon us so I take this opportunity to wish each of you and yours a veryMerry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
