I'd hoped to write this column the day after my long-awaited trip to the Yale Bowl to see the Big Green in action, but the old Flu Bug flattened me this past week so that the doctor disallowed my presence at the Bowl to see a tremendously exciting 14-14 tie. I was glued to CBS radio to listen instead. Tonight's sports programs said there were 47,000 fans there, including, I'm sure, many of our class, but I'll have to read about them.
I did manage to make the Holy Cross game in Worcester two weeks ago and ran into the following: Bert & Sue Rodman, Dick & Ruth Day, Dick Russell, Bill Davis, Dick Hyman, Bob & Phyllis Swift, Joe Sullivan, and Ed Grant. The game was another thriller and enjoyed by all the above named.
Into the local news first.... Jack and Peggy Kilmartin announce the birth (October 19) of fourth child, second daughter, Nancy. Bob Mac Arthur bought a 16' speedboat about a month ago and the first day he had it, it ran out of gas and he and a buddy were stranded off Newport, heading for the broad Atlantic before being rescued by the Coast Guard. The item made all our papers, and I couldn't resist giving Bob a ride - better than his boat gave him, apparently. BobBarnaby dropped in to see me last month while touring the area in his capacity as New England Manager for a New Haven wallspray concern. Bob and Carol announce the birth of number six, Steven Mathew, on August 21. That's five boys now. Can that be topped by any of you prolific classmates????? We doubt it!!!!!
Hanover Inn visitors o£ recent vintage....Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth W. Riley of Northfield,Ill., in September; Dr. & Mrs. Richard Kearsley of Norwell, Mass., and Bill Knight ofRockford, Ill., in October.
A few letters this month.... Bob Hill writes from New York that he and KansasElliott both ushed at Beech Lockwood's '4B wedding recently. Kansas is with General Electric in Memphis with the position of regional sales manager. Bob's account of the reception (1200 strong) defies description. Clayt Morey writes also from New York and tells of the formation of an Architectural Design office of which he's one of three partners. The firm is new, doing any kind of architecture, and Clayt is very enthusiastic. He is still attending Columbia evening school of Architecture with graduation due in 1959. Clayt and Fran hope soon to move from the city to Connecticut suburbs. He hears from Bob Schmitz who's with Cleveland Graphite Bronze Co. in Cleveland. Bob attended the John Mcllwraith wedding recently. Clayt also sees Dick Bandfield (Home Life Insurance) often in New York.
Into a few Hanover clippings Announcement is made of the engagement of Bill Mason of Wilmington, Del., to Miss Raila Ruth Mielikainen of Montreal. Bill is with the legal department of Du Pont. Two weddings.. .. Bob Steinert of Boston was married September 28 to Miss Alice Jane Goddard of Beverly Farms, Mass.; Al Wagner of Wakefield, Mass., was married on September 14 to Miss Joyce Hawkins of Tiverton, R. I.
Loomis Dana has been appointed associate executive of the East Providence-Barrington YMCA which will make him a neighbor of ours. Loomis tor the last four years has been youth secretary at the Beverly Branch of the Chicago YMCA. Loomis is the daddy of two children. Bob Pierce of Lincoln, Mass., has joined Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation as manager of its New England sales office for Olin Alumnium, Lexington. Einar Grell has received his Doctorate in Education from Columbia University. His specialty was bio-genetics. Einar is the dad of three children. Ralph Burgard is leaving his position as Secretary of the Winston-Salem (N. C.) Arts Council to take a similar position in St. Paul, Minn. Alan S. Hodges has been elected President of the National Hide Association. Alan is Treasurer of J. C. Hodges & Co. Inc., Boston Hide Brokerage Firm. He has the honor of being the youngest President of this Association's history. Hubert Bauman is State Agent with the Buffalo Insurance Co. in New York City. Russ Blackwood is Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Hamilton College. H. Allen Brooks is Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Illinois. Bill Griffiths is Shopping Center Manager for B. L. Boykin & Son Co. in Cleveland. John Mcllwraith is with Dow Chemical sales staff in Midland, Mich. Charles Sargent is in Research Physics at M.I.T. Norbie Wild is Research Director of the Los Angeles office of Young & Rubicam. Dwight Haigh is Field Representative for Libbey Owens Ford Glass Co. in Charlotte, N. C.
That's about all I have room for this month How about some letters so I can fill a longer column next time?
