I'm bunking work today to watch the second game of the World Series, and already as I write this the Braves are off and running again. The Fall Classic reminds us that football season has started, and the Green too has gotten off to a fast start. This week's game against Penn is a key game for our title hopes. Many of you will be seen in various stadia even before you read this.
Also by the time you read this you'll have received the second billing of 1958-59 Class Dues. If you haven't already contributed, I implore you to assist our perilous treasury by doing your share.
From the returns already in (for which I'm most thankful) I've garnered the following information. ...George Hartmann writes from Burlington, Vt., where he's peddling for the Missile and Space Vehicle Department of General Electric. He offers a fine deal on an earth satellite for any interested party. George got out of the Navy last winter after a pleasant tour of duty building pipelines and air bases in Spain. He stayed in Europe skiing for two months before "knuckling down" with G.E. ... Ralph Burgard writes from St. Paul, Minn., where he's with the St. Paul Council of Arts and Sciences. He and Cecily were in Greece and Turkey for two months last spring Paul Bjorklund writes that he's starting second year at Columbia Dental School while wife Ginny teaches school in nearby Levittown to help support two chil- dren. ... Clarke Church writes of seeing the Bob Muenzbergs, the Bob Aldens, and Sew Weber over the summer months, spending two magnificent weeks with the Muenzbergs at Lake Winnepesaukee where Bob finally caught one bass after days of fruitless efforts. The Aldens visited the Churches in Lexington (Mass.) six weeks ago and Bobby thumped Clarke in their annual tennis match (Clarke says for the first time ever!). Sew Weber had lunch with Clarke recently, taking a few hours off from his job with the Planning Department of the City of Boston. Clarke, as you know, is Boston's District Manager for Procter & Gamble. He and Jane already have Allen (4½) amd Tom (2½) with another expected later this month. ... Pete New writes of the completion (at last) of his Ph.D. thesis "An Application of Reference Group Theory to Shifts in Values: The Case of the Osteopathic Student." This will net him the coveted degree from University of Missouri next June (they award degrees only once a year). With the pressure off for a while, Peter and Mary then vacationed on the West coast for much of the summer, and he's now back in Kansas City for September meetings. He's with Community Studies, Inc.
