The law firm of Dallstream, Schiff, Hardin, Waite and Dorschel of 231 La Salle St., Chicago has announced that Bob Ackerberg became associated with their firm as of March 18, 1957. Bob was formerly chief law officer in the Chicago Regional Office of the National Labor Relations Board. After graduation, Bob received his law degree from the University of Michigan and had a general law practice until 1939, when he joined the Continental Casualty Co., where he remained until 1948. At that time he became Chief Law Officer for the National Labor Relations Board. He lives with his wife and two children in Evanston, Ill.
Two members of our class have just been named full professors. Mike Cardozo has been named Professor of Law at Cornell, while Reuel Denny has become Professor of Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. To both of these fellows go our heartiest congratulations!
Sixteen members of the class gathered at a dinner at the Dartmouth Club in New York on March 27. Unfortunately, Ray Eartlett, our reunion chairman, had to leave for Chicago the night of the dinner and was unable to be there to give details on our reunion. However, I am sure that by the time you read this column you will all have been well informed as to the plans. Those attending were: John Zimmerman, Jim Moore, Rod Hatcher, Jim Whiton, Wally Modarelli, Sam Englander, Morry Hubbard, Howie Pierpont, Gordon MacKenzie, Howie Sargeant, Joe Byram, Paul Fox, John Wolff, Ed Marks, Irv Kramer and my loyal correspondent, Bo Wentworth. Unfortunately your secretary was unable to attend as the paper convention was in full swing in NYC. Brownie Dickinson, Gates Hastings and Dick Hazen were also there but were unable to stay for the entire meeting.
We were sorry to hear that Fred Gage has been hospitalized following a mild heart attack. While we have no details we sincerely hope that Fred is doing well and soon will be as good as new.
You have all received by this time, the notice and kind invitation from the College to attend the Special Class of 1932 Hanover Holiday. This program starts at 5:30 on Thursday, June 13 with a reception at the Hanover Inn, followed by a Buffet Supper at Thayer Hall. The two panel discussions on Friday morning promise to be most interesting and feature some of our classmates, including Carlos Baker, Mike Cardozo, Charlie Doerr, Reuel Denny, Jim Whiton, Tom Curtis, Ed Marks and Howie Sargeant. We sincerely hope that your plans have been made to attend the BIG 25th and that you will arrive early enough to enjoy the entire reunion program with your families.
When you read this column, reunion will be only about six weeks away and we sincerely hope also that your contributions to the 1932 Memorial Fund will have been made. This is a job for each of us to the limit of our abilities. If we are to reach our goal the ball cannot be carried by just a few, but by everyone, as all will share in the feeling of pride for a job well done. As the campaign nears its close, our Memorial Fund Chairmen Red Drake and Howie Pierpont, and their scores of assistants, will need every one's cooperation. There is not much time left to do your part!
As for your Secretary, he has been very much tied up trying to get a new business running smoothly and being the Chairman of the West Essex County (N. J.) Red Cross Fund Drive. This is a big job embracing nine communities with a population of over 60,000 people but all will have a feeling of pride when the goal has been reached and the campaign is successfully finished. There is a lot to be said for devoting time and energy to things worthwhile for the benefit of all.
