Corporate Scholarship Aid At New High This Year
June 1957

TWENTY-FOUR companies are participating in three forms of financial aid to students at the College and the Associated Schools during 1956-57. A total of 37 students received scholarships and fellowships under the program, with grants ranging from $250 to the total cost of their education at Dartmouth.

In addition, the College received approximately $20,000 in unrestricted gifts accompanying the grants to students. The total of company financial help to students and gifts to the College was the equivalent of just under ten per cent of the total scholarship outlay by the College and Associated Schools for the year.

Most of the scholarships were presented under direct arrangements between the College and the companies, with the College acting as a participating institution in a broad company program. The College, under this arrangement, selects the recipients and the company provides the funds.

In another form, the company administers a financial aid program of its own, making selections of recipients according to its own lights. The student may normally attend any institution to which he is admitted, and the college he selects is then eligible for a supplementary unrestricted grant under most programs.

A third form of company aid provides fellowships for graduate students. All the present fellowship programs at Dartmouth are administered in the same way as the first scholarship program, with the College making the selection o£ the recipient. Five of the six current company fellowships provide for unrestricted grants to the College in addition to the funds awarded to the students.

There are no strings concerning future employment attached to the award of any of the scholarships or fellowships. In cases of financial aid continuing for more than one year, the only requirement is that the student maintain a satisfactory academic record.

Here is a summary of company scholarships and fellowships currently held by Dartmouth students:
