Random selection of items from our summertime accumulation of alumni correspondence brings up the following news for your delectation and wonderment.

From Mexico, on stationery of the Hotel del Prado, we have a good letter from George Collins '35, reporting his extensive travels south of the border. George has been heading up the reorganization and overhaul of one of the Mexican airlines. Following the completion of this assignment, George is moving on to Colombia to do a similar job for the Avianca Airline and expects, as a result, to be traveling all over South America and Europe.

Allen Hazen '40 writes that his daughter Becky starts her freshman year at Bryn Mawr this fall and that sons Allen and David are in Blake School. Al mentions his pleasure as a member of Committee 16, AREA, to have the opportunity to step sometimes on the toes of other Committee members - the other members including a "few college professors."

A cryptic note prepared apparently by the former writer of this column is reported in its entirety: Bill McCallum CE'51, 15-month boy, $10 million Portland Cement Plant, Resident Engineer Walsh Construction, Mason City, now in New York office.

In July, Tcm Unkefer CE'54 notified us that he has accepted a job with Turner Construction and that Harlan Fair CE'54 is with Turner, also, and currently in the Baltimore area. Tom reported further that a latent desire to teach was completely satisfied for some time when he did a turn this spring teaching algebra to boys at Darrow School.

Jim Decker CE'54 has completed his year of study at Yale and is now back in Richmond, Va., with the State Highway Department. Jim writes glowingly of the extracurricular aspects of his year in New Haven and the stimulation of studying with others from all over the world having a common interest in highway engineering.

Lefty Terrill CE'55 contributes the information that on October 4 he and Sally Ann Murphy of Francestown, N. H., were to be married at Portsmouth, R. I.

A note from George Sawyer '47 brings word that George is halfway through a two-year contract working on the inspection and control of Venezuela's first steel mill at Matanza. George says that the entire family is enjoying their life there.

Jim Holway EE'48 has completed his year at Johns Hopkins and the requirements for the Westinghouse.J.H. business management certificate. Among his helpful comments on education at Thayer School, Jim has suggested that our students be required to subfifth scribe to a technical journal during their fifth become acquainted with the literature of their chosen fields. A later communication from Jim and Harriette Holway announces the arrival on August 22 of James Michael Holway 5 lbs., 10 ozs.

Dana Low CE'55 writes that Anne and he are now settled in an apartment in Brooklyn Heights. Dana with Howard, Needles, Tammen and Bergendoff, and has been working. on plans for the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge over the Potomac River. Among Dana's cheery notes is one that his experience on this job has shown that he was well prepared in theoretical structures by Thayer School. About Bill Bonneville CE'55, Dana reports that he is living in New Jersey, working for Esso, and in some sort of mysterious training program.

Joanna and Carl Long, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, greeted the arrival of Carl F. Long Jr. on September 9. Carl reports that little Carl is second to none in matters of good looks, appetite, voice, etc.
