THE HITCHING POST

We are making up in quality these days what we must give up in quantity as far as new nuptial notes are concerned. Only ceremony since the last report occurred October 18 two doors up the street here in Pleasant-ville. The bride is Carol Graft and the groom Gene Ulrich. Ed Tuck acted as best man and three other injuns performed ushering duties, Harry van Benschoten, Bill Cross, and your correspondent. After a sojourn in Nassau, Gene and Carol have taken up residence in Bronxville. Carol toils for Time, Inc., and Ulcers audits with Arthur Anderson in and out of New York.

INFANT INFO

Communiques from Hanover inform us that the Frank Hotchkiss household has a new heir, Anthony Lloyd, born August 14. Brother Jim Hotchkiss and his wife also have their first male offspring following two little girls. The lad arrived September 27 and is called John Martin.

Cul Modisette tells us his daughter Andrea Vivien bowed in on October 4 weighing seven pounds, four ounces. This makes "two pointers and a setter," a pair of boys plus this gal that is, for them.

Most recent papoose in the tepee is Janet Fenton Peppard, the fourth for Ray and Nan Peppard. The baby weighed seven pounds, eight-and-one-half ounces. Home is in Laconia, N. H., where Ray practices medicine.

GRAPEVINE REPORTS

Sher Badger is journalizing for Time magazine in Los Angeles.... Frank Gilroy is also making his mark in a literary way. Television viewers will have seen some of his work, particularly a couple of westerns which have been acclaimed by the critics. Draw, pardner! ... Don Coddington is district advertising sales manager for McGraw-Hill out of Needham, Mass.

Al Durand is a department manager with Smith, Gormly Co. in Rochester, N. Y.... Pete Shaffer is a staff assistant in the Multiwall Bag Division of West Virginia Pulp & Paper Co. Pete works in New Orleans.... Manager and secretary, paper mills, is the title Dave Beeman has with Perkins-Goodwin Co. in East Hartford, Conn.

Along the medical front there are a few sawbones whose whereabouts have not been reconfirmed to you lately. One would be KenAnderson who is now a resident at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia and living in Bryn Mawr. Bob Wilkinson, another recently released service doctor, can be found at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, N. Y., where he is an assistant resident. Out in Santa Rosa, Calif., Dr. George B. McClary Jr. has hung out a shingle. Dr. Jim Strickler did likewise in New York City. Midtowners can find him at 331 East 71st Street.

Peirce Udall checked in with a welcome epistle at mid-October telling of his orthodontic activities in Ithaca and Cortland, N. Y. He and Berry have a two-year-old son, Jeff. Three potential customers flew the coop on Peirce almost as soon as he arrived in the land of the Big Red, however; Hank and SueBarnes finished hotel admin and went to work for the Treadway folks in Pennsylvania, Gene Hotchkiss headed back to Hanover, and Dave Davis departed for a six-month stay in London under a Guggenheim Fellowship. The Udalls will welcome any Big Green visitors, even if your teeth are straight!

Nice note from Frank Treadway stated that his clan includes four youngsters in the four-to-eight years bracket. Three of them are boys. Frank is a registered representative with the New York Stock Exchange working with Ball, Burge, & Kraus in Cleveland.

Bill Sholten is in the commercial credit department of the LaSalle National Bank in Chicago.... Gene Carver's job, erroneously reported last month, is an appraiser with Western Mortgage Corp. in San Francisco. At least we had the city correct!

Rev. Larry Huntley is assistant pastor of the Pawtucket (R. I.) Congregational Church. In addition to his duties there, he is spending two days a week doing advanced study at B. U.'s School of Theology. Larry had been pastor of the Wilton, N. H., Second Congregational Church. He was ordained in Hanover in 1954 and spent a year working at the Daniel Webster Home for Children in West Franklin.

Dick Petersen's wife, Barbara, reports that he left his job as field engineer for U. S. Electrical Motors in Northampton to enter the Divinity School of Duke. He is now serving the Cedar Grove Church and Prospect Church in North Carolina. Dick was one of twenty men selected to receive the National Methodist Scholarship award. The Petersens have three boys, Dickie, David, and Johnny.

Over the Yale game weekend several members of the Class Executive Committee met to discuss various aspects of our tenth reunion in 1960. Joel Leavitt, chairman, has already begun thinking on it and will be glad to hear from volunteers at his home address, 58 Warwick St., Longmeadow, Mass. Already tapped for heavy duty is Frank Dickinson, vice chairman, who also attended our conclave. It was good to see Newc and Sally Eldredge, too; they made the run from New Hampshire where they live only minutes away from a ski tow. Kinda makes a city slicker envious!

Also encountered during the same weekend were Jack and Lura Brodie. Jack is with G. E. in New York where he helps market light bulbs like mad. Dave Pendleton was down from Rome, N. Y., sporting a new title of second assistant corporation counsel for the city. Stretch has the duty of prosecuting in city court.

Earlier in the season we met Jack and Jane Wetenhall after the Brown game at the home of Charlie and Lessie Davison. Besides being the subject of some snappy snapshots, we learned that Jack and Jane have a son born Tune 1, 1957, answering to John Huber III, and a new daughter, Nadine Rinaud, welcomed July 24 this year. Jack is with the Breakstone division of National Dairy in Boston.

Capt. Fred Laird recently returned from a tour of duty in Europe and the Near East where he and another Dartmouth nearly organized a new D Club in Beirut, Lebanon. ...Latest address for Henry Meijer has him with a captaincy at Edwards Air Force Base, specifically at the 6510th USAF Hospital.

Si Morand says class dues response has been good and asks that any of you who forgot to mail your fin to him do so now. His address is 506 Washington Ave., Wilmette, Ill. Thanks for your support.

Al Karcher '51 was recently visited in St. Louis by one Capt. Ace Mueller '51 of the Air Force. Al contends that Ace's visit began on something of a military basis.
