At this writing the focus is on the annual round of year-end activities highlighted by plans for the 1958 edition of one of our traditionally most successful affairs, the family picnic. As in years past, the locale is again the rolling green terrain of Bill Blanchard's '30 New Vernon Acres, which is near Morristown. The date is Saturday, June 7, and pony rides, games and coke will be ready for the kiddies. Naturally, much of the adult activity will be confined to the soft ball field and the beer tent.
By the time this column is in print, another of our annual receptions for accepted freshmen will be history. The event was scheduled to take place at the Suburban Hotel, East Orange, on Monday, May 19. At the latest count, 110 men from the North Jersey area had been accepted for admission to the College in September '58 and our event is one at which a strong bid is made by our Board of Governors and members of the enrollment committee to keep the number of accepted freshmen who defect to other schools to a bare minimum. Freshmen and their parents are invited to see Dartmouth movies and to hear a speaker from Hanover.
Wednesday, April 16, meanwhile was the occasion of our annual dinner, which again found its locale at the Suburban Hotel. Professor Bancroft Brown of the Math Department regaled the attendees with a fascinating talk that seemed to make mathematics, laws of probability, etc., take on fascinating new meanings. Those present agreed it was an evening well spent.
