I get a lot of information about classmates and usually I am pretty good about keeping track of what I have already printed but I have been sloppy lately so there may be some repeats today. The column may also seem somewhat disjointed. I am not in a segue kind of mood.
Mark Sheetz raised some eyebrows recently when he suggested that the United States should use the occasion of the 50th anniversary of NATO to withdraw militarysupport and stop providing Europe with a free ride and security blanket. Mark is a political science professor and specialist in European security affairs at Columbia University. His remarks were made at speech given in Connecticut sponsored by the Forum for World Affairs, a Stamfordbased educational group. Mark used to be a regular at the Homecoming game until the year that his view was blocked by a pine branch. Mark, come back! We have much better seats now.
Being that I favor a good vanilla ice cream over the more exotic flavors, I want to thank Henry Todd for the role he plays in providing vanilla beans to the world. Henry is president of Zink & Triest, which is the world's largest buyer and seller of vanilla beans for the food, flavor, and fragrance industries. A division of Zink & Triest is Folexco, which is deals in the herbal products trade. Both companies are affiliates of A.M. Todd Co., which was started by Henry's great-grandfather in 1869.
Our class web page is located at the URL . If you are not yet a part of the class electronic mailing list and wish to be, I'm sure you will find the appropriate instructions there. The Homecoming gala begins Friday night, Oct. 22, with the parade. We form up by the stadium. Look for the banner. After the bonfire we will have a cash bar in a room at the Hanover Inn overlooking the fire. Saturday morning there will be a class meeting (time and place TBA) followed by the tailgate party on the lawn of Heorot (Chi Phi). Saturday night we will dine at Jesse's. Hope to see you there.
