Northern California

On Friday, May 8, 1959, some 150 members and guests of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of Northern California, met at the Fairmont Hotel for cocktails and dinner. We were fortunate to have as principal speaker to this, our annual meeting, the Vice-President of the College, Ort Hicks '21. He gave an excellent report on the present activities of the College in general and the capital gifts program specifically. Another highlight of the evening was our own "Bob" Leavens' '01 informal comments relative to a commencement address made by William Jewett Tucker shortly after he retired as President of the College.

Club Officers for the new year are as follows: President, Carlton J. Ward '32; Vicepresident, William R. Abbott '27; Secretary, Basil L. Winslow '20; Assistant Secretaries, Guy R. Carpenter '10 and David J. Taylor '50 Treasurer, Nicholas Skylor '52; Assistant Secretary and Treasurer, Eugene P. Carver '50.

We would like to acknowledge, with thanks, the work done by Mrs. Dave Smith and Mrs. Bob Leavens in decorating the speaker's table.

The Club continues to hold its weekly luncheon on Thursday, 12:00 NOON, at the Flytrap Restaurant in San Francisco. Visitors and guests are always welcome.

And now the Smith Bros, both are in the harness. Ritchie '26 serving his second year as our Alumni Councilor and David '35 recently elected President of the "General As- sociation of Alumni of Dartmouth College.
