Through the efforts of Modie Spiegel '22 and Ted Spiegel '53, Lake Shore Country Club was again the scene of Chicago's annual fall golf outing and dinner. Approximately fifty golfers toured this course, one of the most challenging and beautiful of the Chicago district. Charlie Solberg '50, playing in his own inimitable style, for a second time captured the club trophy (based on low net score) signifying outstanding proficiency in ability to interpret the Peoria system of handicapping. Gene Howard '49, much to the surprise of no one, walked off with low gross honors.
Mike McGean '49, Assistant Secretary of the College, delivered a well-prepared summary of matters in Hanover to the eighty-plus alumni assembled for dinner following the afternoon golf. Mike did an admirable job, particularly in view of treatment received at the hands of fellow 49ers, Dean Cameron and Herm Stein earlier on Lake Shore's tennis courts.
Drew Waitley '52, Dick Loewenthal '53, TedSpiegel '53, Sock Senne '53, Phil Fast '53, DonChambliss '52, to name only a few, worked assiduously with President Tom Rowe '50, to make the outing a thoroughly enjoyable and successful affair.
James S. Kearns, Director of Public Relations for Chicago's Pan American Games, addressed this year's first formal luncheon, followed two months later by James T. Moreland, Director of the Chicago FBI office. For the November 4 meeting, Jay K. Buck '50 has arranged to have Henry S. Kahn, Vice President of the Harris Bank, 011 hand to report on the 1959 Bankers Study Mission to the State of Israel. "Formal" luncheon programs are held in the Real Estate Club Dining Room, 105 West Madison St., fourth floor, on the first Wednesday of every second month. Chicagoland alumni desiring notice of forthcoming speakers should contact the club Secretary.
This bi-monthly program does not replace the traditional Monday noon luncheon table, also located at the Chicago Real Estate Club. On any given Monday noon, the "hard core" of Dartmouth in Chicago might well include such familiar faces as Tige Lyon '25, Al Louer '26, Henry Parker '26, John Loveland '50, Jim Duffy '48, Jack McDonald '40, and Gene Hotchkiss '22. Other alumni who find themselves in the neighboring area around noon on any Monday are extended a warm invitation to join the group.
Professor Al Foley '20 was guest speaker at the September kick-off dinner of the Dartmouth Club of Rochester, New York.
