I had the opportunity to return to Hanover the first weekend in October for Group Officers Weekend. It was a thrilling experience particularly because of the efforts of the Secretary's office in escorting us around the campus and planning a full program of activities. The program was designed to acquaint us with the developments at Dartmouth since our graduation. They are so widespread and significant that I highly recommend a trip to Hanover for all of you. The work in graduate education, the new computer system of time sharing, and the vitality and growth of the campus are all very exciting developments.

I had better launch into the news because there is quite a bit of it. Bob Chavey claims that he, his wife, and daughter, Lisa, are the most traveled '63's. It was after graduation in 1963 that Bob joined the Army and traveled from coast to coast in his first six months (about 11,000 miles). Next stop was Germany where Bob became a radar technician, and made several transatlantic trips totaling another 50,000 miles. His stay in Germany was interrupted for a tour in Viet Nam as a public information officer. Bob's family now numbers two boys and a girl, Keith, Mark, and Lisa. Carol and Bob plan to purchase a home in Buffalo upon his retirement from the Army in March of 1968.

Some employment notes: Cole Letteney is now a production geologist in Houston, Texas; after graduation he went to Syracuse University and obtained a Ph.D. this past June. Barry Linsky, I find, has recently become the youngest production manager in the history of Lever Brothers Company. I have lost track of Barry otherwise, and if he is in the sound of my voice, I hope that he will check in with some more news. Dave Dawley seems to have an interesting job as an associate of Trans-Century Corporation in Washington. This is a firm which studies social transition and sociological problems, a rather broad area of investigation. Dave received a master's degree from the University of Michigan School of Social Work following graduation. Returning to Dartmouth as an associate in the Office of Development is Bob Finney. Bob's duties include responsibility for the Dartmouth Parents' Fund and assistance with the annual Alumni Fund drive. Bob went with New Jersey Bell Telephone after graduation from the college and Tuck School. He and his wife, Kathleen, are living in Hanover, where Kathleen is teaching reading in the sixth grade, and if any of you are returning, give him a call. Al Palmer is a law clerk in the 9th Circuit after graduating from Harvard Law School. Al studied for a year at Oxford before going to Harvard. Also in Hanover is Neil Duprey, who is teaching French in the high school there. Neil was a language specialist in French and Russian with the Army after graduation, and taught French and English in high school while doing graduate work in languages at Maine. He is married and has one child. Private Joe Kennedy has recently completed an administration course at Fort Jackson but I don't know where he has been assigned. Joe earned an M.B.A. in 1965 from Stanford School of Business. Another professor among '63's is Randy Babcock, who is teaching theology at Western Washington State. He received a master's degree from the University of Washington.

Although I find it hard to believe, there are still some '63's recently engaged and married. The volume is staggering so I will just have to list them: Steve Garland and Sandra McMichael have announced their engagement from California where Steve is scheduled to receive his doctorate in mathematics. His bride-to-be is studying for her master's degree in linguistics at San Francisco State College. After their marriage, Steven and Sandra will come back to Hanover where Steve will work as an assistant professor of mathematics and assistant director of the computation center. Dong Floren and Olivia Richardson have also announced their engagement but I have no information about a date for their planned wedding. Doug is with an investment banking firm in New York. Also engaged are Sam Cabot and Rosa Sontana, a native of Chile. Sam met his fiancee while he was with the Peace Corps in that country. Frank Gina and Pamela Toll plan a January wedding in New York. Pamela is an actress and Frank is assistant manager of Sardi's which was founded by his grandfather.

Among the marriages celebrated over the summer was that of Bruce Herman and Elaine Shapiro on Long Island. Bruce is studying for his doctorate in political science at Yale; his bride is a graduate of Barnard and is a research assistant with an urban planning firm. Errol Miller, of IDC Weekend Control fame, was married to Enid Oppenheimer, also a Barnard graduate. Errol graduated from Harvard Law last year and I believe he is working in New York City. Walt Cornish and Jill Gunner were wed on August 10 in New Canaan, Conn. Walt is with an advertising firm in New York; he received an M.B.A. from Cornell after graduation. Jill is a graduate of Elmira College and has been teaching. Hanover, N. H., was the scene of John Chamberlin's marriage to Ann Gellermann. Ann graduated from Wheaton and John is presently assistant registrar at Columbia University. Both John and Ann have parents associated with the College; John's father is Dean Waldo Chamberlin of Summer Programs. Finally, a salute for the wedding in the most distant place must go to Dave Boldt, who was wed to Fereshteh Sarshar in Tehran, Iran. Dave has been stationed in Iran with the Army Signal Corps and is now working on the staff of the Wall Street Journal in California. His bride was a student at the University of Tehran and is attending college on the West Coast.
