Although the news is not abundant this month, it is most certainly noteworthy. With reunion but a season away, and the necessity of making definite plans an increasing necessity, news of fellow classmates, their families, their doings, etc., becomes more significant. For numbered among one of life's most embarrassing moments is the "I remember the face but not the name" experience. Not many of us have that enviable faculty of being able to associate name, face, and a brief history in a moment's flash. Also, not many of us know much about any of us so it behooves us all to do a little homework in preparation for the great day of reunion. That's June 19, 20, 21, and I expect to see one and all there. If I lake sick this time it'll be in the Mary Hitchcock Hospital.

Interesting facts are in abundance and yours for the asking. For instance, did you know that Phil DeBarard has been appointed South Florida Division Public Relations Manager for the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. at Miami, Fla.? Or that Al Lott has been named a director of the Permatex Co. of Huntington, L. I.? Probably not. And have you been waiting for me to announce the marriage of Dr. Ed McCrum? Probably. For the curious, and aren't we all, Ed married Hope Griswold last Nov. 29, in Brookline, Mass. A "fait accompli" and we hope to see them both at reunion.

Or perhaps you'd prefer to hear what the New York World-Telegram and Sun has to say about Jack Wachtel. O.K.

Jack Wachtel has latched onto an idea which he is pursuing with all the scientific training that his Dartmouth and M.I.T. years enriched him. He is now fighting the battle of "sameness" in products. As he puts it, "Every business is looking for new developments to keep ahead of the pack. We see these ideas sprout everyday - quilting aluminum foil, piggy-back for ball-point refills, flo-thru tea bags, refillable lipsticks." Such improvements, he says, did not involve product development but were the result of creative analysis; briefly, somebody sparked a needed idea. He's set up Product Counselers, Inc., on E. 57th St. and is geared for action.

But no, maybe you'd rather hear what a few of your classmates have to say about themselves. Like Maury Baruth, for instance? Well, Maury, a lawyer, states succinctly that "I have been elected State Commander of AMVETS in Pennsylvania and have been appointed to the Pennsylvania Veterans Commission by Governor George Leader." And John Bernheim gladly informs you that he is "back from Japan after four years at the American Embassy in Tokyo. You can reach all of us - wife Doris, son Alfred, 6, and daughter Emily, 3 (born in Tokyo) — at the following address: in Holmes Run Rd., Falls Church, Va."

And then there's Don Cole, a doctor up Portland Way, who is "too busy with the family of growing youngsters and a medical practice to have any spectacular news," but manages to see the '45s in the area from time to time - Howie Sawyer, Charlie Patton, Murray Smart, Harris Hinckley, John White, and Bob Haffenreffer. And who is, of course, looking forward to the reunion.

Finally there's that voice from the deep blue, Dr. Bud Thomas, reporting from San Diego. "Hi - long lost Bud Thomas got tired of Navy life after eight and a half years. Decided to settle in San Diego. Have completed surgical training and certified by the American Board of Surgery. Now hope to become a solid citizen again. Have two children and we're expecting Dec. 17." Nice to hear from you, Bud, and how about some info, on the latest.

And now, especially for your reunion files, here's a brief dossier on some far-flung classmates: "Jug" Agry, with Simmons Mattress, now in New York is residing at 1 Park Ave., behind the green door. Ted Belfit, in sales with the Kraft Bag Div. of the Gilman Paper Co., lives in Haworth, N. J. In Stamford, Conn., you'll find Howie Germain as Sales Manager for International Latex Corp. While down in New Orleans is Andy Dewing, serving as manager of the Special Risks Div., New Orleans Branch of Continental-National Group. Stu Chalfant, in Santa Monica, Calif., holds a position which arouses my curiosity. He's an anthropologist with the System Development Corp. of that city. I'd like to hear more about your work, Stu.

It would certainly be nice to see all of you in four months but I know that's impossible. Nevertheless, don't be caught holding an empty bag when reunion rolls around. Pack it and come along. It's going to be a whopper.

Tony G. Anthony '46 was recently appointedto the position of sales manager for the hoteland institutional department of the S. M.Flickenger Co., a wholesale food house.
