One of the most heart-warming parts of our Class Memorial Book program is the letters of appreciation we receive from the bereaved, in response to our card of notification. One of the finest letters is this acknowledgement from Ted Sullivan's son, Timothy '54: -

Our family wishes to thank you for the sympathy card and the most generous remembrance, the purchase of a rare book volume in my father's name. Dad's love for Dartmouth ran deep, as it does with all those many students who have crossed the splendid "green." I think this closeness between fellow classmates was what my Dad loved the most about Dartmouth; for in fellowship, Dartmouth stands head and shoulders above most other colleges. I was fortunate in being able to attend. a full year at Dartmouth before entering the Air Force in 1952. I still keep in touch with some of my classmates.

Please extend our thanks for the card and volume to the class of '26.

Long-time-no-hear from Bill Forrest, who writes from the West Coast: -

Thanks a million for the birthday greeting, although admittedly 54 is not a number which one is especially happy to have rubbed-in too agressively.

Our lives in California are still as pleasant as ever, although aesthetically those portions of the state contiguous to industrial centers are suffering seriously because of the population influx. Everything they say about smog problems is true; and the residential tracts are too rapidly replacing beautiful orchards and wooded hilltops. The newest Forrest incident is a second son-in-law. Our younger daughter, Diana, married Hans Koehl, a mechanical engineering graduate of Worcester Poly and a recent graduate of Stanford Law School. In April they will probably reside in Connecticut. The grandchildren count also makes one realize that time marches on. Our present statistics, three on hand, one en route. Our oldest is approaching 11!

George Tully sends a copy of the Worcester "Telegram," announcing that the Board of Trustees of Worcester Polytechnic Institute has elected Robert D. Harrington Treasurer of the Board and a life member of the college corporation. The clipping also states that "Harrington is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School. He is vice president and treasurer of the Massachusetts Protective Assn. and Paul Revere Life Insurance Co., and has served W.P.I, as assistant treasurer and as a member of its committee on finance and investment."

Hub Harwood is Capital Gifts Campaign Chairman for the Boston Metropolitan Area, with Hal Trefethen as one of his Division Chairmen. In addition to Hub and Hal, '26-ers attending the Boston Capital Gifts Dinner included: - Bill Blanchard, Russ Clark,Charlie Collins, Roy Kelley, Charlie Macdonald, Stew Orr and Don Steele.

Compilation of the returns from ChipChipman's questionnaire reveals that the three news-most-wanted-from '26-ers are: Clyde Hall, Bib Hudgins and Bob Riotte. How about yielding to this grass-roots clamor, boys, with a letter that will bring your classmates up-to-date! All we can supply at the moment is an "Advertising Age" report that three Delray Beach (Fla.) fishermen, including H. E. "Bib" Hudgins, ad director for National Brewing Co., brought in a one-day catch that included: - nine amberjacks, eight dolphins, four kings, a shark and two barracuda! (And Bib was never very convincing in his fish stories, either!)

ODDS AND ENDS

Larry and Peggy Wolff flew to Switzerland and Italy in February for three and a half weeks of skiing. Hub Harwood is the newest member of the '26 Grandfathers Club. At this writing, Dick Mandel and Hal Marshall appear to be Club Champions, with four grandchildren each. Incidentally, can anyone boast an older third-generation-er than Bill Forrest's eleven-year-old, mentioned above? And while we're in a tempus-fugit frame of mind, it's significant to note that the median liv ing Dartmouth alumnus now falls in the Class of 1938 ... twelve whole years after '26. Don't look now, Gramp, but we're probably in Dartmouth's oldest quarter!
