Well, once again it's press time, and we must pound the keys and try to assemble coherently the current doings of the class of dear old '51.
From out Ridgefield, Conn., way we hear told that Stuart Johnson, who in his spare time is a physicist with Schlumberger Co., has taken over the duties of scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 80. Stu and Mrs. Johnson have two sons, Lawrence, two months, and Stuart two and a half. Stu must jump into his scoutmaster duties with great ease, as he's had twelve years of scouting experience, even keeping it up from 1949-1951 in Yokohama, Japan, where he was an assistant scoutmaster.
Before jumping into other things, let us thank you now for the many Christmas cards we got from you all this Christmas. It was grand to have been remembered by so many and we appreciated the cards. Thanks one and all from Mary and myself.
Now, on to the more important things. A May wedding is planned by Neal Crampton and Miss Margaret Read, and an October wedding was had by Bill Blodgett and Ellen Means, who were married in Janesville, Wis. The new Mrs. Blodgett is a surgical nurse at Beloit Municipal Hospital. Bill received his degree from Beloit College, after which he served in the Navy as a lieutenant. He is now associated with Blodgett Mills.
One of the most interesting recreational developments to come out of New England in the recent century is the forth-coming development of Wild Cat Mountain, near Mount Washington up in the White Mountains. Taking his place as vice-president of Wild Cat Mountain Corporation is our own Brookie Dodge. The corporation envisions an investment of one and a half million to put the area in top shape for recreational purposes. Major item on the agenda is the first multi-cabin gondola type aerial lift in America. Also working with Brook in the company is famous skier Malcolm McLane '46 and, from what we read, when the project is finished for opening in December of 1957, this should be a really fabulous spot.
This is certainly untimely information, but the pile has been high and we are just now getting around to waving the banner for the graduate students from Harvard (of last June, no less). They are: Dwight Allison, LL.B., John Jacoby, MD., Dave Sargent, MBA., Jim Wheatley, AM.
It's good to hear that Bill Lamade is making the Dartmouth Club of New York his home while in training with Marsh & McLennan Inc. after receiving his sheepskin from the Navy. While we're at it, let's turn red in the face for late reporting, but anyway say congratulations to Bill Hosier for receipt of his Master's degree from Babson Institute of Business Administration in Wellesley, Mass. What a town to be going to school in!
While in Chicago recently, we had an opportunity to visit with none other than Herb Knight, who with his other committee members, is planning one of the most intriguing reunions the Hanover plain has ever seen. Herb and his group assures us that there will be an interesting fun-packed weekend for all, regardless of our specific interest or condition. Don't forget to plan on swinging up to Hanover June 14. We're sure the occasion will be well worth attending.
We have a lot of hot scoop today on where some of our brethren are arid what they are doing, so let's rattle around in this field long enough to post you, and we hope hit a few of your friends. Bill Birkenmeier is working in the New York office of Welsh Co., in the Juvenile furniture division. George Biggs is at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., while we have another hotel administration man in the form of Wilson Boynton at Cornell University. Charlie Breed wears a pair of six shooters and mounts his palomino fortnightly at 833½ Rimrock Road, Billings, Mont. Bobby Dore is with the New Jersey Bell Telephone in Englewood where he is reported to be giving some fantastic service to young matrons in his position as customer service representative. It is possible that he could be transported to other areas if you are having phone trouble. Frank Reynolds is working in a boiler shop peddling securities in Pittsburgh. It is highly probable but not definitely positive that Clint Washburn is responsible for the high-swept fins on the new Chrysler line, since he is a mechanical automotive engineer for Chrysler. For all we know, he might even be responsible for developing the horsepower in the 1957 line of Skull Crushers. We'll bet Franz Yeomans can give us a lot of the inside scoop on the much publicized Gulf Oil Co. information leaks (he is a sales representative for them in Washington, D. C.). We were in St. Louis last week and didn't know that Steve Wolff is there at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. We haven't heard from Woody Klein for some time, but we imagine it's because he's busier than a cat on a hot tin roof as a staff writer for the New York World Telegraph & Sun.
Word just in from one of our top-notch sleuths in Dubuque, lowa, reports the October 1 wedding of Mr. Green Bay Packer himself, Bill Roberts. Mrs. Roberts also hails from Dubuque, and was the former Mary Moran. Only worthy Dartmouth man that we know of at the scene of the crime was venerable but very wiry Ted Ellsworth, in his monkey suit as usher. As far as we know. Bill is the last of any recent Hanoverians to be wearing the pro-football suit. After graduation, he played for a short time with the Chicago Bears, was overseas in the export-import business in Formosa, played two years as a U. S. Marine Corps Lieutenant, took a business administration course at lowa, and is now with the Packers. Bill certainly has been doing some fast stepping since 1951. Our best to both Mr. and Mrs. Roberts.
Herb Knight, our reunion chairman (not to repeat ourselves) has rounded up an all-star cast for his committee. We won't enumerate their individual responsibilities, but I'm sure the following will produce an interesting and top-notch program for us all on June 14, 15, 16: Shorty Allison, Jim Balderston, John Boardman, Al Brout, Bob Bowler, Dave Hilton and Merle Thorpe. It certainly isn't too early to be arranging your time off for June 14 and even asking your employer for a small stipend to make the trip possible. We'll see you next month, and for sure in June.
Pete Bogardus '51 (left) and Bob Bowler '51, publicity chairman of the Fantastic Fifth reunion coming up this June, get together to discuss plans for the big event.
