As expected, basketball captain Rudy LaRusso walked off with many individual honors for his performances during the year. He was named to the Ivy League first team by the Ivy Coaches and to the N.C.A.A. District I (New England) first team. Guard Chuck Kaufman was also selected for the Ivy League first team, with other honors still to come.

Three of Dartmouth's top hockey players were also chosen for the All-Ivy team. Captain Rod Anderson and defensemen Rusty Ingersoll and Ryan Ostebo were honored.

Although many Dartmouth men will be associated with the Olympic Winter Games at Squaw Valley next year, it seems unlikely that any current Dartmouth skiers will be members of the U.S. Olympic Ski Team — the first time for some years that this has happened. Dartmouth's hopes were pinned on Bill Smith, who unfortunately broke his leg earlier this year at Stowe. A number of Big Green skiers competed in the Olympic tryouts at Stowe on March 13-15 but none of the present team members did well. Tommy Corcoran '54 and Dartmouth's Brooks Dodge '51, both former Olympians, were the only Big Green competitors to place at all well. And at this same meet Dartmouth coach Bill Beck '53, who has been selected to coach the Olympic Alpine Team, broke his ankle while standing on the mountain to watch the races.
