In an abbreviated spring vacation schedule the varsity lacrosse team played only three games, winning one and losing two. It opened by drubbing the University of Delaware, 11-2, but then lost to the Quantico Marines, 17-12, and to Baltimore University, 11-5. Dartmouth also scrimmaged the Mount Washington Club team.
Coach Tom Dent is not overly optiistic about this year's squad (see Coaches' Corner) feeling that his attack line is somewhat weak and midfield a question mark.
For the opening game, won over the University of New Hampshire, 7-5, Dartmouth had veteran Randy Malin at goal, despite an ankle injury, with Captain Bill "Moose" Morton, Jon Herriott and sophomore Bill Sly on defense. At midfield were Jon Tuerk, Sam McMurtrie and Dave Preston. Preston and Tuerk are lettermen, McMurtrie a reserve last year. Veterans Al Munro and Pat Patterson teamed up with sophomore Pat Walsh on Dartmouth's first attack line. The pair of Pats - Walsh and Patterson - led the Green attack with two goals each, and Goalie Malin was outstanding on defense with nineteen saves, some of them on tough shots.
