This is a thumbnail sketch of our winter's activities. December 5 we had our usual undergraduate luncheon, with several of the undergraduates speaking briefly on some phase of life in Hanover. They ran the gamut from the "New" dorms to the athletic picture.
January - we held an evening smoker with a speaker from Hanover, Coach Wilbur Volz, who gave an interesting outline of last fall's football season, and showed "Football Highlights of 1958." We had as our guests several promising prospects for the freshman class in the fall, together with their dads.
February - the usual monthly luncheon, with Dr. John Y. Crouter, Principal of the R. I. School for the Deaf, as the speaker. He gave a most interesting talk on the problems of deaf children and outlined some of the progress that is being made in this field.
March — 1. Hockey party preceding the Brown-Dartmouth hockey game at Providence. 65 alumni, friends and wives turned out for cocktails and dinner, and attended the game in a body. Both the Varsity and Freshmen won, so the evening was a complete success.
2. At the monthly luncheon, Captain Robert J. Slagle, USN, who commanded the air squadron which supported our personnel at the South Pole gave a highly entertaining and interesting description of some of their experiences, and showed colored slides of some of them.
3. There was also a good sized group of alumni at the Brown-Dartmouth basketball game in Providence, although we did not run anything in connection with the game.
The annual dinner of the club will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at the Metacomet Golf Club in East Providence. The speaker will be Fran Horn '30, President of the University of Rhode Island.
