'22 Chairman Honored
JUNE 1959

Wilbur W. Bullen '22 was the first recipient of the new annual award to the Dartmouth Class Chairman of the Year, presented at the dinner of class officers in Hanover on May 1. Following is the citation read in connection with the award, which now joins those given each year to the best secretary, treasurer and newsletter editor among the class officers:

Those charged with selecting the winner of this first award to the Class Chairman of the Year naturally looked for a man who had been an outstanding leader in Dartmouth activities. Glancing at file cabinets in the Alumni Records Office, the committee came across a drawer that took the strength of all members to open. An examination confirmed that one folder crammed full of notes and records about your alumni service activities had caused all the difficulty. But what a happy folder to get stuck on - the committee quickly realized it had found its man.

In honoring you this evening, we cannot help concluding that all the other jobs you have performed for Dartmouth have endowed you with unsurpassed qualifications for leading the destinies of a great class. You have served on the 1922 bequest committee, as an assistant" class agent, class memorial fund chairman, and class secretary. You have been an interviewer for the Admissions Office and a member of Dartmouth's esteemed Alumni Council and former chairman of its Class Gifts Committee. You have been a great leader during the 200th Anniversary Development Program, serving on the National Steering Committee and as Boston Chairman of the Leadership Gifts, Special Gifts, and General Gifts phases. Next weekend will find you, typically, at the helm of an open house for accepted freshman candidates in Boston's University Club. Between now and then we dare say you will spend a full work week on class and campaign business.

Admittedly we have touched but a few highspots, Bill, but confidently we say that to find a candidate more deserving of being honored as Class Chairman of the Year is beyond the capabilities of any mortal committee, even one chaired by you.
