Wins Fund Trophy
JUNE 1959

Edward B. Luitwieler '12, as the top Class Agent among those more than 25 years out of college, received the James B. Reynolds Trophy for 1958 at the class officers' dinner in Hanover, May 1. In presenting the trophy, Fund Chairman Donald F. Sawyer '21 read the following citation:

Edward B. Luitwieler, Head Class Agent for the Class of 1912: For twelve years now you have been Head Agent for 1912 and during this period your leadership, devotion and efforts have been an inspiration for all veteran alumni classes. In your first year on the job you recorded a total of $7,000 from 181 contributors and eight years later your class topped the $10,000 mark from approximately the same number of donors. Despite a gradually decreasing class membership your efforts have increased the 1912 participation from 82% to 104%, largely due to the close attention you have given to obtaining support from widows and relatives of deceased classmates. Last year your labors culminated in leading 1912 to first place in the Group I Tribal Sweepstakes competition with your class ranking fifth among all alumni classes in percentage of participation. The personal approach you have focused on your campaigns through an intimate knowledge of classmates, through visits, letters, calls and detailed attention to each member as an individual are the elements which have gone into making 1912 one of the truly strong Alumni Fund classes. For your fine leadership over more than a decade and for these achievements, in the finest traditions of the Alumni Fund and Dartmouth, the Alumni Fund Committee deems it an honor to present you tonight as the outstanding Head Agent of a class more than twenty-five years out of college, with the Tames B. Reynolds Trophy for 1958.
