The Harvard game "Peerade" brought a goodly bunch of '15ers trekking from far and near and great was the re-uning thereof! 1915 won the attendance poll at the nightbefore stag dinner at the University Club with fifteen of our stalwart trenchermen doing justice to the food, fun and fellowship of that annual affair. While the stags were thus engaged, the distaff members disported themselves with due decorum in the MerryGo-'Round retreat in the Sheraton Plaza. The
"Kike n' Pearl" Brunch Saturday morning was, as usual, the pre-game highlight. For us '15ers, the Brunch was further brightened by a long distance call from Jack Ferguson who probably talked with more '15ers in one phone call than ever before recorded (telephone stock went up two points as a result). As for the game - the weather was beautiful! Post-game parties kept Bostonia on the qui vive well into the night. Seen here, there and elsewhere during this 1915 memorable weekend "Peerade" were: the Dale Barkers, Bob Bigelow, Sid Bull, Bush Campbell, the Hal Claflins, the Eben Cloughs, the Charlie Comiskeys, Tom Connelly, Mrs. Dexter Davis, Ed Dewing, the String Downings, the Bob Fitts, the Chan Fosters, the Bob Griffins, the Hal Harlows, the Marty Martins, the Phil Murdocks, Nut Norwood, the Doc Noyes, the Russ Rices, the Kike Richardsons (and a vote of thanks to them), Ned Shea, Al Sherman, the Geo. Simpsons, Jim Sisk, the Lee Smiths, the Cecil Whitneys and the Dick Wymans. If I've missed some — my apologies - lay it to the heavy traffic!
Our worthy president, Dale Barker, announces that Marvin Frederick is Reunion Chairman for our 45th in Hanover next June, aided and abetted by Co-Chairman Jack Bowler who will handle the multitudinous Hanover arrangements for this gala and momentous event. Detailed announcements will be forthcoming in due course. In the meantime, each and every '15er - mark your calendar, save up the pennies (and nickels), and get in trim for June 13, 14, and 15, 1961!
Dr. Lawrence L. Durgin '40, son of Russand Delphine Durgin, has been elected the new minister of Broadway Congregational Church at Fifty-sixth Street in New York. Dr. Durgin, pastor since 1952 of Central Congregational Church in Providence, R. I., is expected to take up his new duties in December.
Our sympathies go out to the families ofPhilip Hoffman and Ralph Grout in the passing of these two classmates.
The marriage of Mrs. Harold Hume Budd to Mr. Thomas B. R. Bryant '18, both of Lansdowne, Penna., took place early in October in the Chapel of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion, Philadelphia, in the presence of their immediate families.
Pete Pray reports a good summer, part of it at their house in Madison, Conn. Says Hurricane Donna missed their place but the beach properties took a helluva beating. "A few Dartmouth men around, but a nest of Elis - wish you could have heard me singing (?) Dartmouth songs at an intercollegiate song fest - two Princetonians, eleven Elis, one Cornellian and I!"
Howie Fuller attended the VA conference with the President in the White House and came away instilled with the President's appreciation and satisfaction for the progressive service being rendered by the more than 250 VA field stations throughout the country.
Jack Bowler was elected a director of National Life Insurance Company on October 10 prior to the dedication of the Company's new home office building at Montpelier, Vt., the largest office structure in Northern New England. The long list of Jack's accomplishments and honors in the field of medicine add up to an imposing addition to the college archives.
Some unknown says women are always one of three things - thirsty, hungry, or both.
Gertrude (Mrs. Chuck) Woodcock expresses continued interest in Dartmouth doings and reports that she retired from teaching and went around the world last winter - wholly in the Southern hemisphere. Liking it so much, she turned around and went on same Norwegian ship on their North Cape-Baltic Cruise in July and August. Now she's home (Morristown, N. J.) to stay for a while.
We extend our deep sympathy to PhilAlexander in the passing of his wife, Ruth, shortly after their return from a trip abroad. The Johnny Mullins went out West to see their fourteenth grandchild, born last December and, while there, received a wire advising of the birth of another grandson. "So-o-o", says John, "when someone wants to start a 1915 grandchildren contest, will you please enter our fifteen?" Any takers?
Dick Clarke advises (as of this writing) he was "going to Hitchcock Clinic to see if they still find the body warm!"
The Johnny Pendletons (he's been completely retired since March) took a September jaunt through the mid-West, ending up in Massachusetts and Connecticut. They had intended going on up into Maine, but she caught a cold and they had to beat it back home. They are now looking for a place to roost in the North in summer and in Florida in winter — their daughter, husband and two grandchildren moved to Clearwater in July.
Tony Simoneau writes from South Carolina: "Things OK with me — hurricanes haven't got me yet."
Hal Davidson says Gladys is not too well, but they're planning on the Reunion next year.
A note from Ben Slade to Russ Rice says: "Pleased to receive your salutation even though it cost six bucks. The Lord permitting, we'll see you in June 1961. Remember me to any of the boys you see."
Jack Ferguson refers nostalgically to the last Kike n' Pearl Brunch at the old spot. Shall we all root for a new spot adjacent to the Harvard Stadium?
Tom Connelly encloses a ticket stub to the Harvard game with a note: "In case you don't get your tickets, here is one you might use." The date on the stub reads - November 16, 1912! What memories!
John Healy, writing from Kissimmee, Fla., says: "Except for the loss of our antenna and a mess of broken oak tree branches, Hurricane Donna flew past at 100 mph - will take a couple months to repair damage and clean up." What - no changes of address this month? Merry Christmas - Everybody!
