Today is election day and we, like most eligible citizens, have availed ourselves of the great privilege of voting. We will not all be satisfied with the outcome but at least we can be satisfied that whoever becomes president will have done so as the free choice of the majority of Americans. As regards the candidates themselves, Hank Haserot reminds us that Jack Kennedy was his classmate at Choate. Whether he planned to vote for him or not Hank does not say.

The Massachusetts Legislature recently created a so-called Defendants' Committee which is to supply legal counsel to defendants in criminal cases who are unable to hire their own lawyers. The committee has eleven members and the only one representing Western Massachusetts is Fred Pillsbury of Springfield. The Defendants' Committee is controlled by the Judicial Council which made the appointments. Fred is a graduate of the Harvard Law School, and he has been practicing law in Springfield since 1946. He is a member of the firm of Brooks, Wallace and Pillsbury, He is also one of the most active civic members of our class. He was the first chairman of the Springfield Board of Police Commissioners which reorganized the whole police system. He is now first vice-president and executive committeeman of the Hampden County Bar Association.

Dick Warner married Barbara Smith of Yonkers, N. Y., on September 10. Dick's son by a previous marriage was his father's best man and his daughter, Holly, was a bridesmaid.

The Walpole, N. H., American Legion Post is now called the Bridge-Wilson Post in honor of Major Hudson Eliot Bridge and another soldier from Walpole who lost their lives in World War II. The names of the seven men from Walpole who died in that conflict were placed in a container. Two names were drawn and then the two were again drawn to determine which name should appear first. Hudson entered the Marine Corps in 1940. He served in Iceland and in the South Pacific. For gallantry in the Marshall Islands campaign he won the Silver Star. He was killed at Guam July 21, 1944. This is but another reminder of our classmates who died in the service of their country.

Bob Clunie has been appointed submaster at Falmouth (Me.) High School. He continues as an instructor in mathematics and coach of cross country. Bob has, in the past, served as teacher-coach at Lincoln Academy and Morse High School and as principal of Kingfield High School.

Larry Gordon has been appointed to the post of director of research of the aluminum tubing division of La Pointe Industries, Inc. of Rockville, Conn. Larry had formerly been with Pratt and Whitney and Bethlehem Steel.

The Congress of the United States should have its facts straight and Howie Wriggins is a big factor in making that possible. For the past two years he has been Chief of the Foreign Affairs Division, Legislative Reference Service, Library of Congress. His book, "Ceylon — Dilemmas of a New Nation," was published by the Princeton University Press in May. Howie is also teaching a graduate seminar at George Washington University on "U. S. Policy and Political Change in Underdeveloped Countries." He has helped to start an Executive Branch-Legislative Branch and Scholars' Seminar at Brookings on the same subject.

Brad Rowland writes from Orleans, Vt., that he is a lumber and square grader for the Orleans Manufacturing Company, manufacturers of Ethan Allen and Valley Forge Furniture. Brad and Carolin have a boy in the Marines in Hawaii, a girl who is a senior at the University of Vermont, and a second girl who is a sixth grader.

And now to close on a homey political note sent to us through the kindness of Jack Childs '09, class notes editor. It seems that John Moore's secretary went to hear Nelson Rockefeller '30 talk in behalf of the Republican ticket in Cleveland. She was most anxious to shake hands with him, but could not get close to him because of the milling throng. In desperation she screamed, "Governor, I bring you greetings from a Dartmouth man!" Just as Dartmouth transcends most things for most of us, so did it this time with the Governor. He immediately made his way to the young lady and shook hands with her.
