LETTER OF THE MONTH

Even if there had been a flood of mail during this last month, Lew Marsten's gem would have stood on its own merits. Having necessarily censored here and there, we quote:

Inasmuch as you asked for a vague picture of Jack Patrick's siesta up at Tahoe, I feel I ought to give you some of the impressions I recall Jack came up for ten days. He lapped up my six-year-old Old Forester like a camel. He complained bitterly that bonded hundred proof bourbon wasn't as good as it used to be.. He expressed a desire to meet something feminine. I introduced him to a very lovely young thing (a touch of Hungarian goulash), and he disappeared for four days Then Jack produced my special bottle of sixty-year-old cognac, purloined it (it went to Hungary, methinks), and disappeared all by himself to commune with nature. He returned pale, sad, wan, murmuring exquisite sonnets about the timber. (Ed. note: As any woodsman like Jack would!) The bottle was empty. So we played some chess, at which game he cheated. Then he assisted my wife in blasting the hell out of me, taking her side in each argument; taught my two pooches to dig holes in the lawns, painstakingly saw to it that my brats memorized very filthy songs; and, to top everything, left on a plane which got me up at seven in the morning. He also persisted in informing me how much more lovely the lakes are in Oregon.... how the trees in California are slightly tired, and how poorly I barbecue (I wasted the best years of my life over a hot, stuffy barbecue!) So, having unnerved me to the point where I could hardly assimilate a side car, he left, muttering unmentionable remarks about California's fog. Since that time, I haven't seen him, but he wrote one letter inquiring if he had left a pair of slightly used G.I. shorts.

Have seen Jack Matzinger, who wandered in for a day or so last winter. Also, my old roomie, Stan Ogush, who is now a doctor, married and a singer of 1890 songs.

Thanks a lot, Lew, for your news and impressions of this guy Patrick. It is only fair that we extend to Jack an invitation to retort to your report of this now famous siesta-in-Tahoe.

MORE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF DARTMOUTH

Bob Murphy announces the birth of his fourth child and third son, William, on September 23 Mr. & Mrs. Joe Carson greeted Davey Hitchcock Carson on October 3 September 20 was the first day of Jean, John and Virginia Ovitz' second daughter And Bob Keeler and Florence had their third child, Alison, on October 16..... The Cliff Roe's Marcia Ellen was born on June 3 a day short of exactly three years after their first daughter, Wendy. Incidentally, Cliff asks, "What is Howie Rogers, my old roommate, doing?" It's your turn to sound off, Charlie. [Ed.: Last word, February 1946, had him still with the Army in the Pacific area.] .... While on the subject of children, we'll run the risk of being correct without exhaustive research in substantiating John Parish's claim that John Jr., born June 24, 1937, is 1936 Class Baby. Any other claimants should put in their bids now, or let the title standi

BACHELOR TAKES A WIFE

Last month we speculated that some of our '36 bachelors must be in the throes of changing their minds and status. Latest evidence, culled from the Washington, D. C., Post is that "Dr. and Mrs. Lamar Harris, Arlington, announce the engagement of their daughter, Martha King, to Barry Conway Sullivan.....

The wedding will take place December 14 in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Arlington."

Marty Brown writes, "My wife is weary of having me listed as a bachelor." She should be

....and so should Marty's three children. Our apologies to the Browns for this erratum especially in view of overwhelming evidence to the contrary!
