After a better-than-average indoor season this past winter, the Dartmouth track team, coached by Ellie Noyes and Guilford Joyner, should do well this spring in dual meet competition. The Indians are strong in field events despite the loss of Karl Mayer, Heptagonal champion in the javelin throw last spring. Charlie Weingarten, Bill Sadd and Stockton Barnett are top-notch competitors in the javelin throw, while George Ramming holds the College record in the discus. The outstanding man back in the weight events is senior Rod Isaacson, while Tom Laris, of course, should continue his domination of the two-mile races. Sophomore Nick Jennison is rated highly in the mile, while John Knight and John Ebers team up well in the hurdles. Dartmouth's top sprinter, Bill Zeilman, is currently out of action with a leg injury.

The Indians opened their season in mid-April in a triangular meet with Brown and M.I.T. which was won by Dartmouth, 84½ to Brown's 6334 and M.I.T.'s 17 points. The Indians took first place in eight of fifteen events. Laris, after winning the mile race, was defeated in the two-mile run by Bob Lowe of Brown. Nick Jennison took third in the mile race, while John Knight and John Ebers finished first and second in both the 120 and 220 low hurdles. The Indians did well in the field events with Rod Isaacson capturing the discus and shot put, Bill Sadd the javelin toss, Norm Page the high jump, and Rick Husband the broad jump. Greg Millet, John Holland and Dick Noel, all of Dartmouth, tied for first place in the pole vault. In the same meet the Dartmouth freshman track team also won over Brown and M.I.T. with a score of 8734 points to 50½ for Brown.
