It was good to receive a cheerful pleasant letter from Ned Estes. He appears to be in good health and enjoying life. After commenting sadly on the losses from our ranks, he remarks, "However there is still quite a bunch of us old birds kicking around!" As an example he mentions his good friend Bradlee Watson '02, still teaching at St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Va. Bradlee and Ned, as you know, spent many years together in Robert College. Ned finds real delight and satisfaction with the fine new organ that he plays. Just to show in what demand he is, he served as organist and choir master at special services during Lent and at regular services Palm Sunday and Good Friday and two on Easter Day. Good work, Ned.
Another of our musically talented men who still keeps active is Charlie Goodrich. We remember his rich voice of old. The good folk of the Presbyterian Church in Dunedin, Fla., enjoy hearing him with the choir there each Sunday. For exercise he is a powerful "shuffler" daily as a member of the large Shuffleboard Club of that pleasant community. Correction as to Charlie and Ruth's address: January 1 to March 1, 624 Louden Avenue, Dunedin, Fla.; the rest of the year, Chase Road, Tilton, N.H.
Our warmest congratulations and respectful regards to "Sliver" Hatch on the recent token of appreciation of the work he has done for his town of Natick in his "retirement." This was embodied in a resolution passed unanimously at the Annual Town Meeting on March 14, 1961. I quote in part.
Whereas, Fletcher A. Hatch has provided faithful, outstanding, and immeasurable service to the School Department and to the citizens of Natick for ten continuous years during which time he has served as chairman of five, as secretary of two, and as a member of all the following committees:
There follows a list of twelve committees, mostly having to do with school projects and including such important undertakings as the High School Survey Committee., the Workman's Compensation and Insurance Committee and the Building Committees of the High School. The resolution concludes:
"Whereas he has also been an active member of the Town Meeting since the representative form of government was adopted, Now, therefore be it Resolved:
That the citizens of Natick, by their representatives in Town Meeting assembled, express deep appreciation to Fletcher A. Hatch for his generous and exceptional services to the Town of Natick, and that the Town Clerk embody our action in the records of this meeting and convey this Resolution and action to Fletcher A. Hatch."
Added note: Sliver and Alva expect to move into their new home in Greenwich, R. I., in mid-April.
From several sources I hear that a very pleasant reunion was held at Clearwater Beach February 2. Here is a list of the '05 men and women present: John and Molly Bell, Roger and Jane Brown, Fred Chase, Charlie and Ruth Goodrich, Leon and Frances Smith, Dick and Mabel Tolman, "C. C." and Isabel Hills.
Your secretary felt honored to receive an autographed copy of a book entitled "Louis Martin, An Ideal Father." The authors are Louis and Marjorie Wust. Marjorie is the oldest of Frank McCabe's children. The book is beautifully bound and portrays the life of the father of St. Therese with sympathetic and deeply religious feeling.
"C. C." informs me that the Norwich Fair is set to take place July 15. Consequently, of course, our reunion will be held July 14, 15, 16. Better get your reservations in to the Hanover Inn immediately.
