Still active as a practicing ophthalmologist, Samuel Wilkins was honored recently for his service to his community after completing fifty years of practice. In the Maiden, Mass., Independent of April 9 he is shown being congratulated by the mayor of his city. Sam has found time in the midst of his busy career for a wide variety of interests including photography, drama, poetry and art. He played an important part in the restoration of the Royall House and is president and chairman of the board of directors of the Royall House Association. Hearty congratulations, Sam, on your contribution to your community through the long years.
We are happy to know that Frank McCabe is back at his practice after a five-week confinement in the hospital from a severe attack of bronchitis. You can't keep a good man down.
It is good news, too, that Bertha, Bill Clough's widow, is making a good recovery from a session for an operation in a hospital.
Roger Brown, back from Florida with Jane, has rounded up several items about classmates he has been in touch with. "Sliver" Hatch, according to Roger, is still the busiest oldster in the fast-growing community of Natick, building his fifth million-dollar school in the past six years.
Further, Roger, with Jane and Ida and Royal Parkinson, had attended a joint concert of the Dartmouth Freshman and Chapel Hill Girls' Glee Clubs. Royal, he says, is back at his office regularly five days a week.
It was from Roger, too, that the news first reached me that Solon Cornish had passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 20. Roger says he had seen Solon on the previous Wednesday, when he was well and had had a good winter. Solon's daughter, Victoria Snowdon, had been living with her father. The funeral services were held in Grace Episcopal Church, Everett. The following '05ers attended: Roger and Jane Brown, Fred Chase, Dr. Halsey Loder, Royal Parkinson, Dr. Samuel Wilkins. Our deep sympathy goes to his daughter and his son, Ellis, and the other members of his family.
We hope to see many of you in Hanover this summer. Remember the dates, July 10, 11, 12.
