A while back the New York members of this clan had the opportunity to attend an Alumni Fund dinner. As a side light let me say that we were the Class with the greatest representation. Some of the visiting clan members were Tom Schwarz, Ed Matthews, Jon White, Adam Block, Bob Rex, Ray Marks, Frank Bruni, Clyde Brownstone, Gordon Derzon, John Benisch, Bob Holland, George Roumanis and yours Truly. The most important thing though is the importance of the Fund itself. Through its existence the College is able to keep pace with the more richly-endowed schools and the state-supported schools. I am not interested in lecturing or moralizing; I am only asking that, if you are able, please contribute to the Alumni Fund. Tom Schwarz is making it as easy as possible for you. What else should I say?
Among class members who appear to be on their way up is Larrie Calvert. Larrie has been assigned to cover the chemical sales territory in St. Louis and Kansas City, Mo., for the Antara Chemicals Division of the General Aniline and Film Corporation. Larrie joined the company in 1959 after two years of teaching at Vermont Academy. Early in 1960 he was moved to the position of manager of his Division's College Recruitment Program. Don Burkhardt will graduate from Michigan Law School next month and the plans at present include a move with wife Gail to Denver where Don will join the legion of '57 lawyers in that fair city. Lin Davis has passed the' Pennsylvania State Bar Exam and plans to practice in association with his father in Milton, Pa. Lin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where he was on the Board of the Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif, an honorary society. At the present time Lin is serving a clerkship in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals of the United States. Lloyd Weinreb has received a Prize Scholarship from the Harvard Law School, as a result of his outstanding marks in the school's annual examinations. In Berlin, N. H., the High School has a new ski coach in the person of George Lewis. George got off to a good start this sparse skiing year by having his team win about three-fourths of all of its meets. Erich Kunzel's Brown University Glee Club has had an outstanding year as their director completes his first year as a member of the Brown faculty. Included in the year's activities was a 4,000-mile-tour similar to the ones the Dartmouth Glee Club makes in the springtime.
As you can see there has been a great deal of success in the Class already. Possibly you can get a preview of the future successes coming this way by knowing that there have been a number of recent engagements and marriages. (You may take that very large statement any way you wish.) Don Swift and Miss Sondra Anne Ford have announced their engagement. Don is working for his doctorate in geology at the University of North Carolina while his fiancee is with the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D. C. They plan to be married in August. Jacqueline Buxbaum and Dick Cross plan to be married this September. Dick has recently completed a three-year-tour with the U.S. Army Security Agency and is employed by the New Britain (Conn.), National Bank. Dick Bugbee and Miss Ann Lee Smith will become Mr. and Mrs. Dick completed Thayer School and is now in the Navy for awhile aboard the "USS Manley," a destroyer in Charleston, S. C. By the time you read this article Dodi Kregos and Miss Thomasine Gilmore will be married. Dodi is with the Sales Planning Dept. of Lever Bros, in New York City. Don Miller, who is in his third year of medical studies at the University of Vermont, and Miss Margaret Jeanne Hibbard, a medical technician in Montpelier, Vt., plan to be married during June. Miss Joan Wilen, a graduate student at Columbia, and Henry Binder, a fourth-year medical student at NYU, have announced their engagement and plan to be married this spring. Ron Chilcote returned from Spain to marry Miss Frances Tubby in Belmont, Mass., during the Christmas holidays. When you read this they will be back in Spain where Ron is pursuing Hispanic-American studies at the University of Madrid for his Doctorate at Stanford, in California. Bill Gallagher and Miss Diane Shugrue have announced their engagement. Bill is doing his internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York while his fiancee, a Colby Jr. grad, is with a N.Y.C. advertising agency. Tim Robinson and Miss Evelyn Wrightsman plan to be married in June. Tim is presently teaching at Fair Lawn Junior High School in Fair Lawn, N. J., and the new Mrs. Robinson to be is running the sixth grade in Ardsley, N. Y. Also planning to be married in June are Gail Linburn and Gordon Derzon. Gordon has completed his schooling at the University of Michigan in Hospital Administration and is working at the Brooklyn Hospital. The last engagement I have today is of the Sports Illustrated man, Duncan Barnes, and Anne Fiske. I have no further news of this long-awaited announcement.
If you are looking for classmates who may be able to lend assistance in time of need, I have finally found the first one. He is DaveHurwitz, who is married to the former Carol A. Berkley of New York, and who is the father of Leslie, and who is an attorney, and who works for the Office of the Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service in, where else but, Washington, D. C. If anyone has questions you know where to address them.
Have a wonderful month and I'll look forward to writing you many things for the last issue of our fourth year out of College.
Best Regards Skip.
