I recently spoke with Tom Callahan and it was one of those rare, one-call-fills-the-column conversations that a class secretary lives for. Tom is finishing Yale Law School and getting ready to work for Missouri Senator John Danforth in Washington as a legislative assistant focusing on refugee relief affairs. This fits well with Tom's pre-law-school work with Americares, a group which coordinates relief efforts to areas racked by war or natural disaster. Tom's travel itinerary while with the organization included stays in Ecuador, Sudan, Mozambique, Laos, Ethiopia, and Lebanon.

Tom recently saw John Penrose, who is working for Citibank in New York, and George Faux, who is part of Chase's private banking group. George is putting his Middle Eastern studies degree from Johns Hopkins to use as he deals with wealthy individuals from Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. In January he visited Jordan, where he no doubt had a chance to see the Gulf conflict firsthand, an opportunity that those of faint heart might have taken a pass on. Tom also reported seeing Dave Carlson while skiing in Utah and said that Dave is living in Boston and working for Putnam Investments.

My new best friend also gave the Phi Delta Alpha wedding update: Steve Rowland was scheduled to be married last month and has plans to move from his job as a metals trader in Stamford, Conn., to a new position in Switzerland. John Forelli married KathyCollins last July on an island in Lake Sunapee. The two live in Boston, where John works in investment banking and Cathy works for Digital. Charlie Hoban married Liz Hiser last summer and is working for a Boston consulting firm after graduating from Northwestern's Kellogg business school. Andy Pierce is in Chicago finishing up his degree at Kellogg while his new bride works in Boston with the former Heather Keare, who is married to Chris Huff, also a Phi Delta. Chris is a manager for a computer software company, while Heather works in direct marketing. RichDurante, who is studying for a degree in psychology at UNC, recently married the former Brook Baker whom he met when both were living in San Francisco. Others soon to join the club include Ike Schurman, who is engaged to Nancy Targett. Ike recently had his second article published in a math journal and is working toward his Ph.D. at RPI while Nancy is working in Greenwich, Conn. EdTolley, a graduate of Virginia Law, is engaged to his former high school sweetheart Terry Kennedy and plans an August wedding.

Further along the marriage track are Pauland Nancy Hill, who according to Tom have added a second son, Thomas Rider Hill, to their first, Charles Chase Hill. Nancy spends what little spare time she has working in graphic design while Paul, who was recendy published, is finishing his doctorate at the University of Washington in Seattle. I also heard that Mary Fabio is now at Einstein Medical School in the Bronx, where she is contemplating a career in pediatrics. Mary certainly deserves mention for her thoroughness in determining her career goals, having worked in law and public relations before settling on a career in medicine.

With that, I wish to again thank Tom for making my job rather easy this month and to ask everyone else to keep those cards and letters coming. 'Til next we talk.
