Sixty loyal constituents of the Southern California Club gathered together at The Cove in Los Angeles on Dartmouth Night for an evening of true fellowship. Our new President, Don Des Combes '54, conducted his first meeting of the group and handled his chores in sterling fashion. Newly-elected officers were introduced to the assemblage and it was apparent that the younger classes were very well represented as each man arose to sound off his name and class affiliation. Forty-one of those present were from the classes of 1950 and later! The class of 1953, with seven people, led the attendance while '56, '57, and '61 had five each. Harry Lill '05 represented the earliest class and he was accompanied by Gerry Barnes '11. Furb Haight '21, Leon Rothschild '24, Bob Williams '26, Chuck Robinson '31 (our new National Enrollment Committeeman), Bill Farley '31, Dr. Dana Howe '31, Bill Eldridge '34 and Dick Hefler '36 made up the old guard" and to a man, they were happy to see the new blood in view.
The 1953 group included Gus Hullman, Fred Stephens, Bob Newsom, Kent Robinson, Tom McCrea, Pete Reich and Tony Frank. John Van De Kamp '56, Dick Terzian '56, Dick Michelson '56, Flint Ranney '56, Don Ford '56, Pete Cooley '57, Ken Brasted '57, Dick Leavitt '57, Bill Myers '57 and our new Treasurer, Chuck Schneider '57, represented our "middle-aged contingent." Al Barrows '62, Bill Semos '62, George Whitehead '61, Mike Gazzaniga '61, Pablo Gomez '61, Howard Jelinek '60, Jim Murar '62, Pete Hubert '60, Dick Marrone '61, Gerald Greenfield '61, were the youngest group at the dinner and these chaps are fireballs.
Outgoing president, Dick Milliken '50, wept copiously because his gift from Campion's was late in arriving. It has arrived and been delivered. Short space precludes more names of this terrific turnout, but we are happy the club is showing such early strength. Support in three fields makes for a strong association: Attend luncheons, assist enrollment, and ante-up dues. BACK DARTMOUTH!
