Dean Joe McDonald was honored at a dinner on Friday March 25 in the Hollywood Room of the Hollywood-Knickerbocker Hotel. Approximately fifty loyal alumni turned out for the function which, as usual was preceded by a quiet, refined, convivial cocktail party. Dean McDonald's talk was a hilarious success. Bob Williams '47 led the group in an authentic three-chorus rendition of "Eleazar Wheelock," and everyone remembered all of the words! President Dick Hefler '36 gave the Dean a grand introduction, but inadvertently found himself enmeshed in the explanation of foreign currency, a course he took from McDonald in 1935 and he hurriedly retreated from the Master-of-Ceremonies-chair before a question and answer period developed. Dick Milliken '50, Chairman of the Enrollment Committee, gave us a glowing report on his committee's endeavors, attempted to end his talk on a humorous note —laid an egg. Tony Frank '53 outdid himself setting up the screen, projector and sound track for the football films, the last ten minutes being the most interesting and informative. Rudy Pacht '35, still on a diet, couldn't see paying the going rate for his fare of one baked potato, three carrots, one helping of green beans. It's always more expensive to order a la carte.
Glad to welcome Fred Niles '53 to our midst, up from South America and noted following abdomen-up to the bar: Sid Stevens '23, Butch Coda '33, Stan Osgood '30, HapHarris '54, Scotty Rogers '40, John Crandell'40, Jack Rourke '40, Don Fetherolf '54, JohnPalumbo '37, and Bill Short '35. The old guard was there: Harry Lill '05, Rothschild '24, Danzig '37, Durkee '33, Ramsey '35, Eldridge '34, Keyes '29, Robinson, Williams '35 and Haight '21. Dan Dinsmoor '16 handled the 88 white keys in superb fashion. Hasn't learned any augmented chords yet, so has no use for the black. A fine affair.
