The most tangible evidence of the increase in facilities around the School is the establishment of a contractor's hut as the first step in the realization of the new medical students' residence. As a corollary a new road circumventing the site is fairly well established. Coincident with this, of course, progress on the new auditorium is most apparent.

The usual pre-Christmas festivities were augmented by an informal party for the students held in the lobby of the School just before vacation. A severe storm curtailed to some extent the carol singing activity, and it was finally concluded by transmission of telephonic communication - the wonders of modern science! We are now concluding the first period of courses and, as usual, the students feel that January is black indeed.

It would be impossible to acknowledge the many Christmas greetings which we received, but we will give you excerpts from those who included bits of news with their cards. "Little Erich" Wisiol M'52 told us of Johanna and Erika whom Edie and he have acquired and bemoans the existence of "no Y chromosomes." The Warren ThamarusM'52 family report a busy pediatric practice from Midland, Michigan, some of which is carried out at home on the four little Thamari. Dick and Nancy Carleton M'53 send a picture of their three from sunny Florida. Jack and Rita Watson M'53 included an announcement of the advent of William Edward on December 2 with their card, bringing the total up to three. Lee and JoyceDennis M'54 report that they have roses in their front yard instead of snow for Sally to play in and that thoracic surgery is in the offing. Ross and Jean Mclntyre M'54 tell us that the Christmas scene in Pakistan is dotted with cholera epidemics rather than a white mantle. Dave Stiff M'54 is doing pathology in Korea and reports seeing Merrill JohnsonM'54 in Pusan recently.

Burt and Judy Onofrio M'55 are still at the Mayo Clinic but will soon be back in the Navy when they have completed their work in Rochester. Walt Vom Lehm M'55 is completing a year in Ob-Gyn at Yale and then hopes to return to the rural areas of West Virginia with Barbie and their three boys. Dick Cooper M'56 apparently is enjoying his work in Sweden. The Larry Seymours. M'57 and their three offspring are headed for the Army instead of neurosurgery as originally planned. Nick and Eve Tschetter M'58 expect to serve as the chief resident in Pediatrics in Denver if Uncle Sam doesn't catch up with Nick. Tom and Katie Hall M'58 have moved from Denver to the Cleveland Clinic for general surgery, to be followed by urology.

INCIDENTAL INTELLIGENCE: DickLawton M'43 dropped in during his Christmas sojourn in Woodstock for skiing with his family. Bob Beitel M'46 is now working out of an Allentown, Pa., office. Sol Rockenmacher M'61 and the Ken Robertsons M'61 spent a few hours in town during the Christmas recess, as did Jim Foch M'62. Charlieand Mary Ann Eytel M'60 have just welcomed William Charles who made one more 1961 exemption by one minute. Dick andAnn Ruel M'57 maintained their lead over Moose and Doree Townsend M'59 by welcoming Joseph Philip one day before the Townsends greeted Nell Doree.

Bernie Carpenter M'56 expects to return from naval duty in the far Pacific in July to work with the cardiorenal group at the Peter Bent Brigham in Boston. He and Sandra are bringing back with them one boy who was born in the Naval Hospital in Japan. Bill Gallagher M'58 reported that he really is at the Jersey City Medical Center and that his television appearance was definitely temporary. Perhaps we can get some of the juicy news bits included with his long note in our next column.

As they say in the South, "Hurry back" to Hanover.
