A wah hoo wah for Walter Scott Nesmith '07 Named "Nashua Citizen of the Years."

Walter Scott Nesmith, our classmate and retired headmaster, is to be congratulated on being named "Citizen of the Years." On January 16 the Nashua Chamber of Commerce presented the award in recognition and appreciation of his outstanding contributions to the community through education in the city. Walter had been associated with the Nashua School System for 38 years, the last 27 as high school headmaster. He has retained his civic activity and community participation as a member of the board of trustees of the Nashua Public Library since 1947. Since Walter, age 84, was in the hospital at the time his wife Genevieve was escorted to the stage of the Junior High School auditorium to receive the plaque. Mrs. Nesmith also was presented a bouquet of roses. More than 450 persons attended the meeting.

Leon M. Holman has been re-elected executive secretary of the Brookline Chamber of Commerce at their annual meeting on January 22. His office is at 269 Harvard Street, Brookline, Mass.

Julius M. Button of Portsmouth, N.H., attended the annual holiday meeting of the Dartmouth Club of the Seacoast Region early in January at the Exeter Inn.

Don Williams of Keene, N.H., wrenched his right knee in stepping off a curb on the date of the 50th meeting of the Cheshire County Dartmouth Alumni Association so he was unable to attend. It was the first one he ever missed. Don hobbles about with a cane and goes to the clinic to have his knee baked. By the way on January 4 Don was presented with his sixth great-grandchild.

Dwight W. Hiestand of Chicago, Ill., writes from Hotel Milo, Merida Yucatan, Mexico that he will be enjoying life there until May. He is about 2000 miles south of Chicago. Sounds very interesting.

Allan Brown, Harriet and Fred Lena and Bob and Lura Kenyon attended the January dinner of the Dartmouth Club of Sarasota, Fla.

Jim O'Neill, your class president, writes that he is leading a quiet life after spending four weeks in the hospital from September 9 to October 7. Jim and Edith plan to attend the Class Officers Weekend in Hanover, May 4 and 5, and our 55th reunion in June. You have our best wishes.

Harry S. McDevitt passed away on January 30 after being ill at home for six weeks or more and was recently taken to the Veterans Hospital on South Huntington Avenue, Boston. Kitching and Bill Smart visited him on January 21. He recognized them both and was very pleased to see them. Harry and his "Wonderful Singing Voice" will be missed at Dartmouth reunions. Those songs: "White Wings," "Galway Bay," "Sweet Adeline," "Silver Threads Among the Gold," "Sweet Rosie O'Grady," "My Wild Irish Rose," "You Tell Me Your Dream," "There's a Long, Long Trail a-Winding Into the Land of My Dreams," and many others as well as our own Dartmouth songs were some of his favorites. Harry was a loyal Dartmouth alumnus, loved by all who knew him. See In Memoriam in the April issue.

Sam Bartlett, your retired class treasurer, of New York City has given up his office and all business interests. Sam has really retired which is hard for me to believe.

The Boston Alumni Association dinner on February 1 at the Harvard Club was very interesting from start to finish. President Dickey was exceptionally good. Grebenstein, Retching, Sanborn, Smart, Halsey Loder '05 and John Weston of Reading, Mass., hopeful father of a future Dartmouth man, sat at our table. We sure are getting to be "Old Timers."

The following classmates are celebrating their birthdays during the month of March, "Rocky" Hazen, "Art" Spear, and "Al" White.

Hope to see you all at our 55th on June 8, 9 and 10, 1962. Drop me a line when the spirit moves.
