The notice of the death of Dr. Ralph S.Perkins on October 2 which was published in the November ALUMNI MAGAZINE was recognized to be brief and inadequate.
Because of that fact, it is good to have an appreciation of Ralph and his fine career by his lifelong friend and fellow-townsman, EdBarker. Ralph and Ed were classmates at the Pittsfield High School, Pittsfield, N. H., and Ralph, a farm boy whose chores left little time for home study, was valedictorian of his class.
"At Dartmouth," Ed writes, "he did not seek campus fame, but he was a loyal classmate and easily formed lasting friendships. He had missed few reunions and was counting on the 50th. After receiving his M.D. degree from Johns Hopkins in 1911, he practiced in Exeter, N. H., for several years and married his talented wife, Bessie Marie Lane."
Since Ralph's eminent career as an orthopedic surgeon in Worcester, Mass., was reported in the November MAGAZINE, it need not be repeated here.
Ed Barker continues: "Ralph retired to Harwich Port, Mass., in 1949, following a coronary occlusion. His hobbies were photography and printing. Prominent in church work in Worcester, he continued his church activities on the Cape.
"His professional skill, serene disposition and very high standards in all phases of his life won for Ralph the love and respect of all who knew him.
"The sympathy of the Class goes out to the widow and to the two sons."
The marriage of Sarah Jane Tabor to Mr. William E. Cummings was celebrated on October 23 at the Trinity Methodist Church in Colebrook, N. H. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Parker Tabor.
Charles and Sarah Woodworth have moved recently from their Brookline, Mass., apartment to a cozy cottage in New London, N. H., not far from Lake Sunapee. Per ley Churchill reports that he is still enjoying his work with the Brown Company which no longer includes spending a lot of time in the woods, as it formerly did. He is now able to find more time for fishing, hunting and gardening.
Harry Storrs reaches the retirement date established by the State of New York next January. He has been asked, however, to stay on duty until next July 31, and has agreed to do so. He will then have completed 44 years of service with the State of New York. After retirement, he plans to return to Hanover. "No particular news about his family," writes Harry, - "just two more grandsons!"
Doc Foley visited the Lake Placid Club, in the Adirondacks, during the late summer. Charles A. Wing, until recently pastor of the First Parish Church in Quincy, Mass., is now stationed at the head offices of the American Unitarian Association, 25 Beacon St., Boston. He anticipates special assignments which may take him to many sections of the country. Mrs. Wing and he have, however, made their home in Cambridge, Mass.
Harry Warner writes, "Am planning on attending our 50th."
Ted and Mrs. Redington have returned to Southern California, to be nearer to their children and grandchildren. Their new address is 136 A, West Yanonali St., Santa Barbara, Calif. More about Ted and family in January.
