The squash team split in matches with Penn and Princeton, beating the Quakers 5-4 and bowing to the Tigers 7-2. These final matches gave the Indians a 5-6 record for the season. Red Hoehn entered three Indians in the Nationals and the Green tied for ninth place. Hop Potter turned in the best performance as he advanced to the third round before losing to first-seeded Ralph Howe of Yale. Dick Reddington and Dave Smoyer were beaten in first-round play.
The wrestling team completed a successful season back in February when it edged 15-13. The finale proved to be a cliff-hanger as the outcome was in doubt until Lee Bateman took the heavyweight match on a 12-5 decision. Other point scorers were Andy Alland at 123, Rick DuPuy at 130, Floyd Moore at 157. Jim Leavitt earned a pin at 177 and Bowie Duncan won at 167.
Early in March, Coach Whitey Burnham entered six men in the New England intercollegiate wrestling championships and all six men returned to Hanover with medals. As a team Dartmouth scored 42 points, one point behind second-place M.I.T. This is the best showing Dartmouth wrestlers have made in the New England meet. Captain Ellie Torbert was third at 123, DuPuy was second at 130, Ivars Bembris was fourth at 147, Moore was fourth at 157, Duncan was third at 167, and finally Bateman was third in the heavyweight division.
